We currently have a Manager - Audit role open in our McDevitt & McGlynn team.
This is a team that is growing its offshore accounting functions support in India.
This brings a great opportunity for the incumbent to lead and drive a team to maturity and learn while directly interacting with Irish offshore clients.
The role provides a dynamic and varied experience, with responsibilities that shift depending on the audit and accounting season.
These range from audit-related activities to accounting, tax and bookkeeping tasks, tailored to meet client needs.
McDevitt & McGlynn are a firm of Chartered Certified Accountants and Registered Auditors based in Ireland.
They have 30 years experience working with small and medium sized businesses and business owners.
Role Overview:
- The Audit Manager will lead a portfolio of UK and Irish audit clients (typically 5M35M/5M30M turnover), manage a small team of senior/junior accountants, and ensure high-quality delivery across the full audit lifecycle.
- The role combines audit leadership, financial reporting review, basic tax oversight, and accounting support during non-audit periods.
I- t requires a well-rounded professional with strong technical skills, excellent client communication, and the ability to guide a team through growth and maturity.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit Delivery & Quality Management:
- Lead all stages of the audit cycle planning, scoping, fieldwork, review, completion, and reporting.
- Ensure audit files meet firm methodology, documentation standards, and regulatory expectations.
- Review complex workpapers, including investment schedules, income/CGT reconciliations, and tax-effect accounting workings.
- Identify accounting/audit issues early and recommend solutions aligned with Irish GAAP/FRS 102.
- Sign off audit work for partner review.
- Financial Reporting & Technical Review.
- Oversee preparation and review of Financial Statements under Irish GAAP and FRS 102.
- Guide the team in using CaseWare/My Workpapers Audit and Bright Financial Reporting.
- Review management accounts, month-end reporting packs, and analytical summaries.
- Provide oversight on corporation tax workings and deferred tax calculations.
Client Relationship Management:
- Serve as the main point of contact for assigned audit clients.
- Communicate timelines, deliverables, and progress proactively throughout the year.
- Provide insights on accounting/reporting improvements and respond to client queries promptly.
- Escalate specialist issues to appropriate technical teams where needed.
Team Leadership & Capability Development:
- Lead, mentor, and coach Senior Accountants and Audit Associates.
- Review work, provide structured feedback, and support skill growth through regular check-ins.
- Act as an approved mentor for junior audit staff or trainees.
- Facilitate training on audit methodology, FRS 102, CaseWare, and documentation quality.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and capability assessment for the expanding team.
Operational & Practice Support:
- Assist with resource allocation, workload scheduling, and utilization management.
- Improve workflows, templates, audit efficiencies, and documentation practices.
- Contribute to practice development initiatives and support quality reviews.
- Broader Accounting Support (Non-Audit Season).
- Oversee management accounting work, bookkeeping reviews, and month-end deliverables.
- Guide preparation of analytical reviews, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Maintain quality and timeliness across all accounting/non-audit tasks.
Skills, Attributes & Competencies:
Technical Expertise:
- Qualified CA /ACCA/ACA.
- 5 to 7+ years audit experience, ideally with UK or Irish firms/clients.
- Strong knowledge of Irish GAAP and FRS 102 (essential).
- Audit experience in the 1030M/1030M turnover range.
- Working knowledge of:
- CaseWare/My Workpapers Audit & Bright Financial Reporting Sage.
- Financial statement preparation and tax-effect accounting.
- Strong accounting and bookkeeping fundamentals.
Leadership & Management:
- Proven ability to manage and develop junior and senior staff members.
- Strong prioritization, delegation, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines while maintaining quality.
Client & Communication Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Strong relationship-building and consultative problem-solving skills.
