Roles and Responsibilities & Key Deliverables:
Seed Multiplication:
- Develop a seed program that aligns with the finished goods plan.
- Plan and establish long-term seed capabilities with a 5-year horizon.
- Create contract models that reflect the needs of both growers and the company, taking into account different environments (plains and hills).
- Engage in seed contracting through persuasion and price negotiations with growers.
- Build collaborative relationships with suppliers, vendors, and input companies.
- Define the accountabilities, responsibilities, and objectives of human resources during the rollout of seed programs.
- Import new varieties and achieve alignment with variety leadership groups, ensuring global communication.
- Explore new varieties focusing on both seed and processing attributes.
- Collaborate with various government institutions such as the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) in New Delhi, the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) in Shimla, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in Ludhiana, and the State Agriculture Departments of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
- Ensure legal compliance of the seed program by acquiring and implementing the necessary licenses from relevant departments.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of chemicals, field operations, and the setup of storage infrastructure and equipment.
- Provide technical training to McCain staff and growers through various methods, including meetings and phone calls.
- Exhibit a working knowledge of potato or vegetable processing.
- Identify, select, and negotiate prices with cold storage facilities for seed in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Seek third-party investments for technological upgrades to storage facilities, such as conveyor belts, enhanced air circulation, and data loggers.
- Display excellent oral (presentation) and writing skills, including administering annual and monthly reports.
- Oversee Farm Food Safety audits and surveys to track compliance and improvements in farm practices, ensuring successful audit outcomes.
- Conduct organizational diagnostics to understand current and future business needs, assess what is functioning well, and recommend changes as needed.
India Green Field Seed Multiplication:
- The seed requirement has doubled following the placement of the India Green Field seed minitubers order.
- This increase necessitates doubling operations without compromising seed quality, which includes managing owned farms, expanding the number of acres, and increasing farmers and team members.
- Identify and establish new geographies for quality seed production across India.
