Job Summary
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and proactive Management Accountant to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting while managing key accounting functions including monthly management accounts, purchase ledger, cashbooks, VAT reporting, and compliance activities.
The ideal candidate should possess strong technical accounting expertise, excellent analytical abilities, and hands-on experience in financial reporting standards such as IFRS, UK GAAP, and/or FRS. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, external stakeholders, and auditors to support overall business operations and financial governance.
Experience with Navision or similar ERP systems is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Management Accounts
- Prepare monthly management accounts including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cashflow Statements in compliance with IFRS, UK GAAP, and/or FRS standards.
- Manage accruals, prepayments, journals, depreciation, stock provisions, rebates, wages/salaries, and fixed asset accounting with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations ensuring accuracy and supporting schedules align with the trial balance.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports, cost centre analysis, rebate reports, and sales analysis to support business decision-making.
Purchase Ledger & Cashbook Management
- Oversee the purchase ledger function including supplier reconciliations, payment authorisations, and payment run creation.
- Manage daily cashbook postings, nominal payments, receipts, and bank reconciliations.
- Monitor and manage Directors Loan Accounts (DLA).
- Support and oversee purchase ledger team activities and performance reviews where required.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Prepare and submit UK and overseas VAT returns along with Intrastat reporting.
- Support additional compliance activities including P11Ds and PSA reporting.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation to ensure timely completion of statutory accounts.
- Liaise with external auditors, HMRC, and other regulatory bodies when required.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Support finance system enhancements, upgrades, and implementations including Navision improvements or migrations.
- Identify process gaps, troubleshoot financial issues, and recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to internal financial controls, company policies, and reporting procedures.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with departments including Operations, Sales, and Customer Service to understand business processes and resolve financial queries.
- Promote financial best practices and support business stakeholders with financial insights and guidance.
- Communicate complex financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
Required Skills & Expertise:
- Strong technical accounting knowledge under IFRS, UK GAAP, and/or FRS standards.
- Hands-on experience in management accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and
compliance activities.
- Experience with Navision ERP preferred; experience with similar finance systems acceptable.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- High attention to detail with strong numerical and reconciliation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Flexible, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CIMA / ACCA / ACA Qualified or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or related field.
- Experience working in international finance environments preferred.
