Job Profile : PROVOST The provost oversees budget allocations to the faculties and works with them for planning, development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of all academic programs, policies, and supporting infrastructure including facilities and information technology. He has direct responsibility for the recruitment, retention, and renewal of the faculty, and contributes to maintaining the infrastructure that assists the faculty in teaching and research. Provost reports to the Pro Vice-Chancellor. Deans of faculties report to the provost. The provost is responsible for the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students on campus. He sets priorities with regard to admissions and financial aid, and works to ensure student retention and timely graduation. He is also in charge of all cross-college programs, including general education. With regard to curriculum and education, the provost works in close consultation with the faculty deans in the spirit of shared governance Responsibilities 1. To lead, direct, develop, monitor the verticals assigned. 2. Shall be responsible for aligning the vertical objectives to the vision and mission of the university. 3. To provide leadership to strategic planning, research and setting up processes for the program vertical. 4. Approve the budget and monitor the expenses of the respective vertical. 5. Shall support and guide the deans to achieve their KRA's. 6. Shall possess a student centric approach. 7. Ensure that the research, academic programs and the faculty are of the highest quality. 8. Support research, grant-writing, publishing and other scholarly activities of the faculty. 9. Promote high quality research through collaboration, grants, publications and patents. 10. To implement academic plans, research agendas and oversee the work. 11. Work closely with the deans to facilitate program development. 12. Introduce short courses - Executive-, - Diploma- for the working category people. 13. Contribute in designing MDP's and FDP's for faculties. 14. Involve the students in various research projects at national and international level. 15. Adopt best practices through international and national linkages. 16. Collaborate with industries and government authorities for joint research collaborations. 17. Ensure systematic review of programs (majors) to ensure quality and current course content. 18. Formulate, maintain and implement a high-quality curriculum. 19. Shall be responsible to approve the hiring, evaluation of faculty, staff, of programs and services. 20. Provide leadership in matters of academic policy and administration. Regularly advise the Deans on these matters. 21. Coordinate accreditation efforts and the preparation of reports to various accrediting agencies. 22. Oversee the preparation of the class schedule of each trimester; approves the final class schedule. 23. Oversee the promotions of the programs and its admissions. 24. Ensure succession planning at each level. 25. Ensure placement of students nationally and internationally. 26. Responsible to shoulder responsibilities of the social initiatives carried out at the university. 27. Perform other duties as delegated by the Pro-Vice Chancellor and other line management officials.
