Job Title: Manager/Team Lead - Credit Underwriter
Location: Andheri, Marol

About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic professional to lead our Credit & Risk function. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing credit assessment, risk analysis, policy adherence, and team management while aligning business growth objectives with robust risk governance. This role requires strategic thinking, leadership acumen, and the ability to collaborate across teams to drive portfolio quality and business scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and motivate the Credit underwriting team to ensure high performance and accountability.
- Allocate workloads, set goals, and conduct regular performance reviews to enhance team efficiency.
- Provide guidance and support in complex case assessments and business decisions.
- Handle team escalations and internal conflicts promptly and fairly.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and growth-oriented work environment.
2. Credit Assessment & Risk Management
- Evaluate credit proposals, financials, and borrower risk profiles.
- Develop and implement effective credit risk models and assessment frameworks.
- Identify portfolio risks and recommend corrective actions to mitigate exposure.
- Maintain an optimal balance between credit risk and business growth targets.
3. Data Analysis & Insights
- Analyze credit and risk data to uncover trends and actionable insights.
- Develop and share periodic reports, dashboards, and presentations with senior management.
- Support business strategy through data-driven recommendations and forecasting.
4. Business-Integrated Approach
- Adopt a business-centric perspective in credit and risk evaluation beyond traditional underwriting.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Product, and other departments for process alignment and faster decision-making.
- Independently assess business needs and provide risk-balanced approvals.
5. Policy & Process Governance
- Review, formulate, and update credit and risk policies in alignment with regulatory standards.
- Ensure strict policy adherence while maintaining agility for business requirements.
- Continuously identify process gaps and recommend improvements for greater efficiency.
6. Communication & Documentation
- Draft and review professional communications such as BRDs, policy notes, proposals, and internal memos.
- Present insights and recommendations effectively to leadership and stakeholders.
- Ensure all communication related to credit and risk is precise and compliant.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field (MBA/PGDM preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Credit & Risk within NBFCs, Banks, or Fintech companies.
- Strong exposure to unsecured loan products (Consumer Loans, Personal Loans, Business Loans, etc.).
- Proven experience in managing and developing teams in a fast-paced financial environment.
- Sound understanding of risk mitigation frameworks, credit policy design, and portfolio management.
