Job Description Project Management & PMO Lead (Capital Projects / Centre of Excellence)
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Project Management professional with strong leadership capabilities, deep industry knowledge, and hands-on expertise in managing large-scale Centres of Excellence (CoE) or Delivery Centers for capital projects.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, advanced project controls knowledge, and the ability to guide teams through complex project environments across multiple sectors including Chemicals, Metals, Mining, Industrial Manufacturing, and Oil & Gas.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Communication
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across all organizational levels.
- Function naturally as a team leader, fostering collaboration, alignment, and motivation within cross-functional teams.
- Represent the Project Management Office (PMO) or Centre of Excellence in client and leadership interactions.
2. Project & Program Management
- Lead end-to-end Program and Project Management functions for capital projects.
- Direct and govern large PMO / Delivery Center operations, ensuring standardization, efficiency, and delivery excellence.
- Drive program-level planning, monitoring, scheduling, and execution oversight.
- Provide expert guidance across one or more phases of the project lifecycle: conceptualization, FEED, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations support.
3. Technical & Domain Expertise
Bring deep domain expertise in one or more sectors:
- Chemicals, Metals, Mining, Industrial Manufacturing & Oil & Gas
- Apply generalist knowledge across multi-sector capital projects when required.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert in project development, execution methodologies, and performance monitoring.
4. Planning, Scheduling & Controls
- Lead project-level and program-level planning, baselining, scheduling, and critical path analysis.
- Develop and govern integrated schedules for owners, contractors, and supporting service providers.
- Manage and track progress measurement, KPIs, performance dashboards, and variance reports.
- Oversee cost control, forecasting, scenario development, and predictive analytics to support management decision-making.
5. Digital & Analytical Capabilities
- Build and deliver system-based reports, dashboards, and analytics for leadership and client consumption.
- Use BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent to generate actionable data insights.
- Lead digital transformation efforts for PMO functions such as dashboards, integrated reporting, and workflow automation.
6. PPM Tools Expertise & Governance
Demonstrate advanced expertise in:
- Primavera (Client & Web)
- Microsoft Project
- Guide teams on scheduling standards, governance frameworks, and best practices for enterprise -wide project management.
Specialized Technical Responsibilities:
7. Schedule Review & Assessment:
- Review project schedules developed in Primavera P6 for completeness, sequencing logic, and alignment with WBS.
- Validate activity durations, dependencies, constraints, and resource loading as applicable.
- Ensure correctness of critical path, float calculations, and schedule structure.
- Identify issues including open ends, excessive lags, unrealistic durations, and hard constraints.
- Provide corrective recommendations and schedule improvement strategies.
8. Risk & Delay Analysis:
- Perform schedule risk assessments, delay analysis, impact studies, and scenario planning.
- Prepare risk registers, mitigation plans, and recovery strategies.
- Advise stakeholders on potential slippages and corrective actions to ensure project success.
