Job Description Lead Expert - Market Risk P&L
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Expert Market Risk P&L to manage daily P&L production, risk attribution, certification, and control processes across multiple asset classes including Equities, Vanilla & Exotic Derivatives, and Hybrid Desks. The role involves close collaboration with Trading Desks, Front Office, Operations, Technology, and senior stakeholders to ensure accurate risk reporting, valuation controls, and timely resolution of breaks and discrepancies. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in financial products, risk metrics, and investment banking operations with a proactive and analytical approach.
Key Responsibilities
Daily P&L Production & Analysis
- Manage daily P&L production across multiple asset classes including Equities, Vanilla & Exotic products, and Hybrid Desks.
- Produce and report daily risk-attributed P&L, including detailed commentary on key P&L drivers and movements.
- Perform daily analysis and substantiation of new trading activity for reporting and discussions with Business Units (BUC), Operations, and Front Office teams.
- Conduct discussions with Trading Desks on daily P&L and obtain required sign-offs.
Risk Certification & Controls
- Perform pre-certification of valuation across VaR, SVaR, and Stress Testing (STT) applications.
- Certify risk metrics across all asset classes, ensuring desk confirmation for new trades, booking changes, or modifications impacting VaR/SVaR/STT numbers.
- Conduct manual analysis of significant risk metric variations using sensitivity and shock analysis for large market moves.
- Ensure appropriate controls, reconciliations, and reviews are maintained for daily P&L production processes.
Risk Monitoring & Market Data Validation
- Monitor and communicate limit breaches to Front Office teams, including analysis on increase/decrease in risk consumption and system closure for valid breaches.
- Provide detailed commentary on level movements, threshold breaches, and risk variations.
- Conduct data quality checks across internal pricing systems, pricers, market data, shock updates, and scripting validations.
- Perform pre-checks on market data and validate system accuracy to ensure risk reporting integrity.
Reconciliation & Issue Resolution
- Ensure accurate and timely transaction flow to sub-ledgers, coordinating with Technology, Middle Office, and senior management for issue resolution or escalation.
- Investigate and resolve manual adjustments and breaks caused by factors such as:
Missing corporate actions
Dividend mismatches
Rate discrepancies
Trades executed post cut-off timelines
- Ensure timely resolution of operational and valuation discrepancies impacting reporting.
Stakeholder Management & Projects
- Collaborate closely with Trading Desks, Front Office, Operations, Technology, and Senior Management to maintain reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Support change initiatives, system enhancements, and migration projects.
- Participate in and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system improvements and process enhancements.
Required Candidate Profile
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Market Risk, Product Control, P&L Reporting, Risk Certification, or Investment Banking Operations.
- Experience in daily P&L production, risk attribution, and certification processes within an investment banking environment.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in MS Office tools, especially MS Excel.
- Good understanding of financial products used in Investment Banking, including Equities, Vanilla & Exotic Derivatives, and Hybrid Products.
- Strong knowledge of valuation, accounting, and risk metrics such as VaR, SVaR, and Stress Testing (STT).
- Familiarity with pricing systems, market data validation, and reconciliation processes.
Functional Competencies
