Job Purpose:
To carry out overall development and management of the Engineering sections (i.e. Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation) for the globe creating long term engineering strategies to support the business vision and objectives. Also aim for continuous improvement in these services and capitalize cost control opportunities by applying new technology/systems.
Job Context and Major Challenges:
The CoE has been created to help achieve the business vision of being the premium producer in the world. The objective of the CoE is to coordinate, guide and support business initiatives on Quality improvement, Product improvement, Efficiency and Productivity improvement, Safety and Environment at all our Units. The CoE is intended to be the one stop shop technical solutions provider to the business units. The CoE will act as a platform for systematic capturing of all operational data, Internal and External benchmark, coordinate cross learning's between units, and a coordinated approach to finding solutions to critical issues. The CoE will be a repository of knowledge and best practices implemented across the business so as to prevent reinvention of the wheel. Identify opportunities to improve the processes and provide solutions through new System/Technology/Products and thereby contributing to the engineering development. Facilitate units by ready solutions to all critical/chronic problems related to equipment performance.
Other Major Challenges:
- Increasing Maintenance across units due to Equipment, Machineries and systems getting older
- Steady Power Supply
- Highly corrosive atmosphere lead to equipment and electricals and instruments failure.
- Processes are not understood well and equipment capacities are not scientifically established. Failure of equipment due to over capacity run.
- To identify Global Challenges to meet changing requirement of Customers.
Key Result Areas:
1. Analysis and Solutions:
- Supporting through reliable and timely engineering services and facilitate in problem solving in all units
- Coordinate activities that require expert application or advanced engineering / scientific knowledge.
- Providing solutions to all critical issues affecting plant working and proactively interface with Mechanical, Electrical and Instrument teams to assist in resolution using collective knowledge of the entire technical team.
- Identify focus areas that are likely to affect the long term goals of the business and thereafter design improvement plans.
- Identify and phase out inefficient Equipment/Technology in co-ordination with Units and subsequently develop plan for new developments.
2. Layout Best Engineering Practices:
- Development and maintenance of a database for various activities and latest technical up gradation from the market.
- Ensure Capturing of identified best engineering practices from market study and inter unit MIS and developing plans for suggesting the best practices in working to all the plants.
- Technical evaluation of all suggestions coming under employee suggestions scheme there by undertake feasibility study and counter checks on the various CAPEX stage gate approval/ sanctions required.
- Technical Evaluation of Higher value Equipment.
- Provide inputs to maintenance planner of all sites with regards to Mechanical, Electrical and Instrument maintenance activities for his consolidation and giving expert advice to the sites on PLC and new generation Electronics System and smart plant instrumentation in line with low cost and high level automation.
3. System/Equipment Design:
- Future Technologies and new developments.
- Design Equipment, Electrical and filed control systems, for the future technologies and new developments in the VSF business from Mechanical, Electrical and automation view points.
- Verification, review and monitor of all designed parameters and recommend measures to improve productivity and become one of the world's low cost eco-friendly staple fiber plants.
- Conceptualization of the new technology in accordance with world class manufacturing facilities.
- Induct new technology from concept to commissioning.
4. Cost Control:
- Drive improvements, identify and capitalize on cost control opportunities.
- Analyze all the plans with a view to identify cost control in various sections of plant.
- To develop practices for energy conservation and facilitate initiatives to control/minimize energy losses.
5. Reliability Improvement:
- To study and analysis the Rotating machineries, motors, VFD, DCS controlled and operated equipment for reliability in operation. To study and analyze troubleshoot, maintenance, adjust, repair, calibrate and install all types of equipment having complex interlocking or inter-related circuits (i.e. Distributed Control Systems, PLC's, controllers, electronic circuits, or other transmission equipment).
6. Capex schemes development and checking:
- Scheme accuracy check from Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrument, Civil and cost view point. Approval of PFD/PID/Layout. Capex One pager checking for BRC review.
7. Other Supports to units:
- Involve in Project related activities in technical discussions, technology evaluation, vendor visit and critical inspections etc. For Units, many times visit technology evaluation in India/abroad.
8. Sharing Knowledge:
- Through Monthly VC for all sections sharing Good techniques/tools/equipment across units, Support in implementation
9. Self-Development:
- Keep abreast with new engineering technologies and techniques. Interaction / Visits with Global technology providers. Internal and External training. Attending Seminars/Workshop. Visiting various Fares/Expo
