Job Profile
The role involves providing specialized legal advisory and representation services in the area of Indirect Taxation, with a focus on Customs and allied laws.
The responsibilities include:
Advisory & Opinions
Drafting and reviewing legal opinions on issues under the Customs Act, 1962, Customs Tariff Act, 1975, Foreign Trade Policy (read with the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992), and allied legislations including:
- Special Economic Zones Act, 2005
- Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002
- Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016
- Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940
- Legal Metrology Act, 2015
Drafting & Representation
- Drafting and filing submissions before the Special Valuation Branch (SVB) of Customs.
- Preparing responses to pre-consultative notices, show cause notices, appeals before CESTAT, Board of Approval, and DGFT Authorities.
- Drafting applications and submissions before the Authority for Advance Ruling (AAR).
- Drafting replies, submissions, and applications during investigations and representing clients before Customs, DGFT, BIS Authorities, and relevant Boards.
- Assisting clients during OSPCA proceedings.
- Representing clients before Customs, SVB, AAR, and CESTAT.
Knowledge & Research
- Digesting and summarizing recent judicial pronouncements.
- Monitoring and analyzing new Notifications, Circulars, Public Notices, and Trade Notices issued by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce.
- Preparing periodic legal updates for clients.

Qualification & Experience
- Education: Chartered Accountant (CA) or Law Graduate from a reputed law school with a strong academic record.
- Experience: 3-6 years of post-qualification experience in Indirect Taxation, with in-depth exposure to Customs-related matters.
