Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Systems & Standards
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve QA/QC systems and SOPs across the plant.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and ISO 17025 standards.
- Lead internal and external audits, documentation, calibration, and test traceability initiatives.
- Standardize inspection and testing procedures to ensure uniformity and reliability.
2. Metallurgical & Process Quality Control
- Monitor and control metallurgical parameters across melting, refining (Ladle Furnace / VOD / AOD), and heat treatment processes.
- Ensure adherence to chemical composition, microstructure, hardness, tensile, and impact properties per customer and grade requirements.
- Review and approve heat-wise chemical and mechanical test reports, ensuring product consistency and reliability.
3. Laboratory Management
- Oversee the functioning of chemical and mechanical testing laboratories, including spectrometers, UTM, hardness testers, impact testers, microstructure labs, and NDT facilities.
- Ensure equipment calibration, lab discipline, inter-lab validation, and adherence to testing protocols.
- Drive initiatives for NABL accreditation and continual lab upgradation.
4. Product & Process Control
- Conduct process audits for melting, casting, rolling, forging, and machining operations.
- Implement robust Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA) for non-conformities and customer complaints.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, and R&D teams to enhance yield, reduce rejections, and improve process stability.
5. Customer Quality & Technical Support
- Interface with customers for audits, product approvals, and complaint resolution.
- Provide metallurgical and quality-related technical support to customers and internal teams.
- Maintain strong working relationships with QA representatives of key customers and certification agencies.
6. Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of quality engineers, metallurgists, and laboratory technicians.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and quality ownership across departments.
- Conduct training programs on quality standards, defect analysis, and metallurgical awareness.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Reduction in internal rejections and rework (%)
- Reduction in customer complaints and claim costs
- Improvement in heat-wise consistency and quality yield
- Reduction in Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ)
- Timely closure of CAPA and audit non-conformities
Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- B.Tech / M.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline
- Total Quality Management (TQM) certification preferred
- 20 - 25+ years of experience in QA/QC within alloy steel, forging, or foundry industries
- Strong technical understanding of metallurgical standards, process control, and lab operations
- Experience in ISO/NABL accreditation and customer quality audits
- Proven leadership, analytical, and communication skills
