Position Overview
The General Manager Logistics will be responsible for leading, supervising, and optimizing the complete logistics and supply chain operations at the Wardha location. This role demands a strategic thinker with deep operational expertise and the ability to streamline large-scale logistics processes in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
The ideal candidate will drive operational excellence, improve cost efficiencies, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain strong coordination with internal teams, external partners, government bodies, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee end-to-end logistics operations including transportation (rail/road/sea), dispatch planning, scheduling, and coordination.
- Ensure seamless movement of coal and other associated commodities as per client requirements.
- Lead warehouse operations, inventory control, loading/unloading management, and yard operations.
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and optimize transportation modes.
- Introduce process improvements, automation, and best practices in supply chain workflows.
- Support long-term business planning and align logistics functions with corporate goals.
Resource & Budget Management
- Prepare and manage budgets related to logistics, warehousing, manpower, and transportation.
- Monitor cost efficiency and implement measures to reduce operational expenses without compromising performance or compliance.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a large operational workforce including supervisors, vendors, and drivers.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Procurement, Operations, Finance, Safety, and Customer Service teams.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, logistics partners, transporters, and regulatory authorities.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to all statutory, safety, and environmental guidelines related to logistics and supply chain operations.
- Oversee documentation, audits, and compliance procedures relevant to railways, transport, port operations, and coal handling.
Performance Monitoring
- Track and analyze key operational KPIs such as turnaround time, delivery accuracy, cost per MT, transit efficiency, loss minimization, and vendor performance.
- Prepare periodic reports for senior management with actionable insights.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or a related field.
- 10 to 15 years of experience in logistics, supply chain operations, or heavy industrial transportation.
- Strong knowledge of Operations Management, Logistics Management, and Warehouse Management.
- Hands-on experience in budgeting, resource planning, and financial control.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred:
- Experience in coal logistics, mining supply chains, or large-scale industrial raw material transportation.
- Familiarity with Indian Railways operations, RRs, rake planning, and port handling processes.
- Knowledge of logistics-related compliance and safety standards.
