Role Overview:
The Category Head will have complete P&L ownership for a high-growth product category.
This is a critical leadership role that sits at the intersection of Product, Supply Chain, and Marketing, responsible for defining the category strategy, driving assortment planning, optimizing pricing, and achieving aggressive top-line and bottom-line goals.
Key Responsibilities:
P&L Ownership & Growth:
- Own the category P&L, including revenue, gross margins, and inventory health targets.
- Develop and execute the annual and quarterly category growth strategy, identifying key market opportunities and product white spaces.
- Lead demand forecasting and coordinate closely with the Supply Chain and Operations teams to ensure optimal inventory levels and speed-to-market.
Merchandise & Assortment Strategy:
- Define the ideal product mix and assortment architecture based on deep consumer insights, competitive analysis, and trend spotting.
- Work with the Product/Design team on the product development pipeline, ensuring offerings meet consumer needs and margin targets.
Pricing & Promotion:
- Develop and implement dynamic pricing strategies across all sales channels (own website, marketplaces) to maximize revenue and margin.
- Plan and execute category-specific marketing campaigns and promotions in collaboration with the Brand and Performance Marketing teams.
Team & Stakeholder Management:
- Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing team of Category Managers and Associates.
- Manage relationships with external vendors, partners, and key internal stakeholders (Sourcing, Tech, Marketing, Finance).
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Education: Full-Time MBA from a Tier-1 B-School (IIMs, ISB, XLRI, FMS, MDI, etc.
Experience: 8-12 years of overall experience, with a minimum of 3+ years in Category Management with P&L accountability in a fast-paced E-commerce, D2C, or FMCG company.
Skills:
- Deep understanding of the E-commerce ecosystem, including marketplace dynamics and D2C marketing channels.
- Exceptional analytical ability to interpret sales data, consumer behavior, and inventory metrics.
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
- Proven leadership ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive alignment on complex projects.
- A high-energy, entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of scaling categories from scratch
