Role Summary:
The Program Director will be responsible for overseeing the strategic development, operational management, and expansion of course/academic as well as non-course components of IIT Bombay Makerspace. The role requires strong leadership, program management skills, and a passion for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The Program Director will collaborate with faculty, industry partners, and students to ensure the space remains a vibrant and effective innovation ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a long-term vision and strategy for IIT Bombay Makerspace in alignment with the institution's goals.
- Program Development: Design and oversee programs, workshops, and events that encourage hands-on learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and startup incubation.
- Operational Management: Ensure the smooth functioning of the Makerspace, including facility maintenance, procurement, safety compliance, and user management.
- Partnerships & Funding: Establish and manage relationships with industry stakeholders, sponsors, alumni, and funding agencies to secure financial and technical support.
- Community Engagement: Foster a strong and inclusive innovation culture by engaging with students, faculty, and external stakeholders.
- Resource Allocation: Manage the budget, human resources, and technological infrastructure effectively.
- Mentorship & Guidance: Facilitate mentorship programs and connect innovators with subject matter experts, faculty, and industry professionals.
- Research & Innovation: Encourage applied research, product development, and technology commercialization within the Makerspace.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelors or master's or Ph.D. in Engineering, Design, Business, or related fields from a reputed institution.
- 8-12 years of experience in program management, innovation hubs, R&D, or entrepreneurial ecosystems.
- Strong leadership, project management, and team-building skills.
- Experience with prototyping tools, design thinking, and maker technologies (3D printing, IoT, AI/ML, robotics, etc.).
- Experience in securing grants, funding, and industry collaborations.
- Excellent communication, networking, and stakeholder management skills.
- Passion for fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and hands-on learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in academia, research labs, or startup incubators.
- Experience working with academic institutions, government bodies, and corporate partners.
