Hughes - Purchase Officer - Technical

Job Description:

We are hiring a Purchase Officer Technical with experience in procuring engineering goods, raw materials, and MRO items for manufacturing operations.

The candidate will work closely with the maintenance and production teams to ensure timely availability of quality materials.

Key Responsibilities (KRA):

- Source and procure raw materials, capital goods, engineering spares, and MRO items

- Liaise with technical teams to understand material specifications and requirements

- Evaluate vendor capabilities and conduct technical-commercial negotiations

- Float inquiries, prepare comparative statements, and finalize purchase orders

- Ensure delivery timelines align with production schedules

- Maintain vendor database, rate contracts, and performance records

- Coordinate with stores, QA/QC, and accounts for GRN, inspection, and payments

- Handle procurement documentation and maintain ERP data accuracy

- Develop alternate vendor sources to reduce cost and dependency

- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and compliance standards

Required Skillsets:

- Sound knowledge of engineering components, technical specifications, and industrial products

- Strong sourcing, analytical, and negotiation skills

- Familiarity with manufacturing procurement processes and ERP systems

- Good understanding of vendor capability assessment and techno-commercial evaluation

- Proficiency in Excel, ERP, and procurement tools

- Ability to work in coordination with maintenance and production teams

- Awareness of industry standards and quality parameters

Qualifications:

- MBA in operations/Diploma/B.Tech in Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical Engineering

- 2-5 years of experience in technical procurement in the petrochemical, plastics, or rubber industry
