Hughes - Cost Accounting Specialist

Job Description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accounting Specialist to join our finance team in the petrochemical/plastics/rubber industry.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial analysis, with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and cost drivers.

Key Responsibilities (KRA):

- Prepare and analyze cost records, reports, and budgets for manufacturing operations

- Track and report on production costs, material usage, labor, and overhead allocation

- Conduct variance analysis between standard and actual costs and identify key cost drivers

- Support inventory valuation, reconciliation, and cost roll-up processes

- Monitor and analyze raw material, WIP, and finished goods costing

- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for new products and pricing decisions

- Coordinate with production and procurement teams to ensure accurate cost capture

- Support internal audits, statutory audits, and cost control initiatives

- Ensure compliance with cost accounting standards and company policies

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date cost data in ERP systems

- Provide cost-related insights and reports to management for strategic decisions

- Participate in annual budgeting, standard setting, and forecasting activities

Required Skillsets:

- In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles, standard costing, and variance analysis

- Strong understanding of manufacturing cost structures in the petrochemical/plastics/rubber sector

- Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) and MS Excel

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills

- Strong organizational and communication abilities

- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams

- Familiarity with inventory control, BOM analysis, and cost audits

Qualifications:

- MBA/Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce

- CMA/ICWA qualification preferred

- 3-5 years of relevant experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment
