Head/General Manager - Civil Projects - Coke Oven Plant

Role Purpose:

To lead and manage all civil engineering activities related to Coke Oven Plant projects, including construction of coke oven batteries, by-product plants, raw material handling structures, and related infrastructure, ensuring timely, safe, and cost-effective project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Coke Oven Civil Project Execution

Lead civil construction for Coke Oven Battery, including:

- Battery foundation and structural supports

- Coal tower & conveyor structures

- Coke wharf & quenching tower

- By-product plant civil structures

- Pushing and charging machine tracks

- Oversee civil works for coal handling and coke handling systems.

- Ensure construction meets high-temperature industrial standards required for coke oven operations.

2. Structural & Foundation Engineering

Review and approve designs for:

- Heavy equipment foundations

- RCC & structural steel buildings

- Underground utilities and trenches

- Chimneys, stacks, and silos

- Ensure structures are capable of handling vibration, thermal expansion, and heavy loads.

3. Project Planning & Cost Control

- Develop detailed project execution schedules (PERT/CPM).

- Monitor project budgets, cost control, and resource allocation.

- Track progress and ensure projects meet milestone deadlines.

4. Contractor & Vendor Management

- Manage EPC contractors, civil contractors, and subcontractors.

- Evaluate contractor performance and ensure adherence to quality standards.

- Approve contractor bills and progress certifications.

5. Quality Assurance

Ensure strict compliance with:

- Civil engineering codes

- Structural safety standards

- Industrial construction norms

- Conduct site inspections and quality audits.

6. Safety & Statutory Compliance

Ensure compliance with:

- Factory Inspector requirements

- Pollution Control Board norms

- Industrial safety standards

- Implement strong safety practices at construction sites.

7. Cross-Functional Coordination

Coordinate with:

- Mechanical & Electrical Project Teams

- Technology suppliers for Coke Oven Batteries

- Production & Maintenance teams

- Ensure smooth integration of civil works with mechanical and process equipment.

Desired Candidate Profile:

- 25+ years of experience in large industrial civil projects.

- Strong exposure to Coke Oven / Steel Plant / Heavy Industrial construction.

- Expertise in RCC, structural steel, heavy foundations, and industrial infrastructure.

- Experience managing large EPC contractors and multi-disciplinary teams.

- Strong leadership and project management capability.
