JOB DESCRIPTION:
Head of Treasury and Banking:
Confidential.
REPORTS TO: Group CFO
LOCATION: Mumbai (with travel to plants and Thailand operations)
DIRECT REPORTS: Two seasoned manager tier leaders (Forex and Banking, and Working Capital and Debt), supported by treasury and cash management officers.
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Head of Treasury and Banking owns the group's cash, debt, and currency exposure on a managed, consolidated basis. The role runs the group treasury discipline across cash visibility, working capital control, foreign exchange hedging, and banking relationship management. The Head of Treasury and Banking leads the function day to day, owns the cash forecast and the hedging framework, and ensures banking and treasury operations run reliably across the group.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cash and liquidity:
Build a single group view of cash across all entities and banks across India, Thailand, and the planned US operations. Stand up a 13 week rolling cash forecast in partnership with FP and A, covering INR, THB, and USD balances. Manage liquidity, multi currency cash management, and inter entity funding, including cross border funding and repatriation flows across India, Thailand, and the US.
Working capital:
Drive working capital discipline across receivables, payables, and inventory funding. Partner with the businesses to release cash tied up in the operating cycle.
Banking relationships and debt:
Own the group's banking relationships across India, Thailand, and the planned US operations, including selecting US banking partners and standing up US bank accounts and cash management infrastructure for the new entity. Manage debt facilities, covenants, and refinancing. Optimise the cost and structure of borrowing across the group.
Foreign exchange:
Build and run the FX hedging framework across India, Thailand, and the planned US operations, with explicit policy coverage of USD exposure (INR/USD, THB/USD, and INR/THB pairs as relevant). Manage transaction and translation exposure - including exposure arising from cross border funding and repatriation flows to and from the US - within an approved policy.
Treasury governance:
Maintain the treasury policy, approval framework, and controls. Ensure treasury operates at a standard appropriate to external audit and external capital scrutiny.
Team leadership:
Lead and develop the treasury team. Maintain banking and treasury operations discipline so daily execution is reliable and controlled.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications:
Chartered Accountant.
Experience:
8 - 12 years of post qualification experience, of which:
- At least 6 years in treasury, banking, or corporate finance roles.
- Cash and liquidity management across a multi entity, multi jurisdiction group, including cross border funding and repatriation flows.
- Foreign exchange hedging experience in a genuine multi currency context, including USD exposure management.
- Debt and banking relationship management, including covenant management.
- Experience running treasury for a multi entity group, including US operations and banking, is a strong plus.
- Experience setting up US banking relationships and accounts for a new US entity, or running treasury for a group with US operations, is a strong plus.
- Manufacturing or industrial sector exposure.
Technical depth:
Strong on cash forecasting, FX instruments, and debt structures. Familiar with treasury management systems and comfortable with ERP sourced data, ideally SAP.
Sector preference:
Manufacturing, industrial, or any capital intensive multi entity group is preferred.
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES:
- Ownership orientation: Takes full accountability for group cash, debt, and FX outcomes and operates with rigour across a multi entity group.
- Cash discipline: Treats cash visibility and forecast accuracy as the foundation of the function rather than a periodic exercise.
- Banking relationship strength: Credible with lenders. Negotiates facilities and covenants well and keeps relationships strong through the cycle.
- Risk judgement: Manages FX and liquidity risk within an approved policy framework rather than by instinct.
- Promoter family fluency: Comfortable engaging directly with promoter family members. Translates treasury decisions into business language.
- Cross border fluency: Comfortable across India, Thailand, and US banking, regulatory, and currency contexts, including INR, THB, and USD cash management and cross border funding flows.
WHAT GOOD LOOKS LIKE:
- A single group cash view and 13 week rolling forecast operating reliably and trusted by the CFO.
- Working capital managed within targets, with measurable year on year improvement.
- Banking relationships consolidated across India, Thailand, and the US - including US banking partners selected and US accounts operational for the new entity - and debt actively managed within covenants.
- FX hedging framework operating within an approved policy across INR, THB, and USD exposures.
- Cross border funding and repatriation flows across India, Thailand, and the US operating reliably within policy.
- Treasury policy and controls maintained at an audit ready standard.
- Treasury team performing reliably, with stable daily execution and developed bench strength.
