
Job Summary
The Head - Transmission Business will be responsible for end-to-end ownership of the transmission EPC & HTLS vertical, including business development, tendering, project execution, profitability, and long-term strategic growth. The role demands a strong leader with a proven track record in transmission projects and the ability to scale the business sustainably.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Business Development & Tendering :
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities in transmission EPC projects (including HTLS) across Central/State utilities (PGCIL, SEBs) and private developers
- Lead end-to-end tendering activities: pre-qualification, technical & commercial bid preparation, pricing strategy, and submission
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders to enhance visibility and pre-tender tie-ups
- Develop and maintain a robust project pipeline aligned with business growth targets
- Track market trends, competition, and policy developments impacting the transmission sector
2. Project Execution & Delivery :
- Drive end-to-end execution of transmission EPC & HTLS projects including:
- Route survey
- Engineering & design validation
- Procurement
- Installation (laying/erection)
- Jointing, testing & commissioning
- Ensure adherence to timelines, quality standards, and contractual commitments
- Identify and mitigate execution risks (ROW, approvals, logistics, contractor performance)
- Establish strong MIS, progress tracking, and project review systems
- Ensure timely project closure, billing, and handover
3. Profit & Loss (P&L) Management :
- Own complete P&L responsibility for the transmission business
- Ensure project execution within budget and achievement of target margins
- Monitor cost drivers: materials, subcontracting, logistics, overheads
- Improve billing cycles, collections, and cash flow
- Conduct regular financial reviews at project and business level
4. Strategy & Business Expansion :
- Develop and execute a 3-year growth strategy for scaling the transmission EPC & HTLS business
- Explore new geographies, customer segments, and business opportunities
- Drive long-term business sustainability and competitive positioning
5. Team Leadership & Organization Building :
- Build and lead a high-performance cross-functional team (projects, engineering, planning, execution)
- Define clear roles, KPIs, and accountability structures
- Strengthen internal capabilities in project and contract management
- Foster a culture of performance, safety, and continuous improvement
6. Vendor & Contract Management :
- Develop and manage a strong vendor and subcontractor ecosystem
- Lead commercial negotiations ensuring cost, quality, and timelines
- Monitor vendor performance and compliance
- Handle claims, contract variations, and dispute resolution
7. Compliance, Quality & Safety :
- Ensure adherence to statutory, regulatory, and contractual requirements
- Implement strong QA/QC systems across projects
- Drive high safety standards and ensure zero major incidents
- Maintain documentation and audit readiness
Qualifications & Experience :
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical preferred)
- Minimum 20 years of experience in transmission EPC projects
- Proven experience in both business development and execution
- Strong exposure to transmission lines including HTLS projects
