Role Overview:
The Head of Tax will be responsible for leading the overall tax function for the organization, including strategy, compliance, litigation, and advisory across domestic and international operations. The role requires a strong leader with deep expertise in direct and indirect taxation, particularly in complex, large-scale and regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tax Strategy & Planning
- Develop and drive the organization's tax strategy aligned with business objectives
- Identify opportunities for tax optimization and efficiency across entities and geographies
- Advise leadership on tax implications of business decisions, M&A, restructuring, and new initiatives
2. Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all direct and indirect tax laws (Income Tax, GST, etc.)
- Oversee tax provisioning, ETR reporting, and financial statement disclosures
- Monitor changes in tax regulations and assess impact on the business
3. International Taxation & Transfer Pricing
- Manage cross-border taxation matters, including DTAA, withholding tax, and permanent establishment issues
- Oversee transfer pricing policies, documentation, and audits
- Drive tax-efficient global structuring and fund flow strategies
4. Litigation & Regulatory Management
- Lead tax litigation strategy, including handling assessments, audits, and appeals
- Represent the organization before tax authorities and appellate forums (CIT, DRP, ITAT, etc.)
- Manage relationships with regulators, tax authorities, and external advisors
5. Business Partnering
- Collaborate with finance, legal, treasury, and business teams on transactions and commercial decisions
- Provide tax advisory support for new business models, contracts, and expansion plans
6. Team Leadership & Governance
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing tax team
- Establish strong internal controls and governance frameworks for tax processes
- Drive automation and digital initiatives within the tax function
Key Requirements:
- Chartered Accountant (CA) - Mandatory
- 15-20+ years of experience in taxation
- Strong exposure to corporate tax, international tax, and GST
- Prior experience in Big 4 (PwC, EY, Deloitte, KPMG) is mandatory
- Proven track record of handling complex tax litigation and regulatory matters
- Experience in managing large teams and cross-functional stakeholders
