Head - Supply Chain Management (SCM)
Location: [Dombivli, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India]
Years of exp: 12 - 17 Years
Reports to: VP Operations
Direct Reports: Procurement Manager, Strategic Sourcing Manager, Planning & Warehouse Manager,
Role Level: Senior Leadership (typically 15-20+ years of experience, of which ~5+ years in a leadership role
Purpose of Role:
To define, lead and oversee the end-to-end supply chain (procurement, planning, inventory, logistics, vendor development) for the manufacturing unit, ensuring the right materials and products are available at right cost, right time, in support of production and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Supply Chain Leadership
- Develop and implement the supply chain strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Establish SCM policies, standards and processes (planning, procurement, inventory, and logistics) and ensure adoption across the organisation.
- Drive continuous improvement, digital transformation and supply chain excellence initiatives (lean, automation, and analytics).
2. Demand & Supply Planning / Inventory Management
- Lead demand forecasting and supply planning processes; ensure material and product flows support production schedule and customer requirements.
- Manage inventory levels (raw materials, semi finish and finished goods) to optimise working capital while ensuring availability.
- Monitor and improve KPIs such as OTDIF (on-time delivery in-full), inventory turns, stock-outs etc.
3. Procurement & Vendor Development
- Oversee procurement strategy including sourcing, negotiations, contracts, supplier performance.
- Build and sustain vendor development programmes; manage supplier risk, green channel quality, lead-time reduction.
- Align procurement decisions with cost optimisation, value-engineering and supply reliability.
4. Logistics, Warehousing & Internal Materials Flow
- Manage inbound logistics (raw materials to factory), internal logistics (plant materials movement) and outbound logistics (finished
goods dispatch).
- Ensure warehousing operations are efficient, compliant (FIFO, safety, space, layout), and aligned with production/dispatch needs.
- Collaborate with 3rd-party logistics providers, freight forwarders, customs agents (as applicable), track and improve transporter OTP
5. Performance Management & Reporting
- Define, monitor and report SCM KPIs and take corrective action.
- Participate in budget, head-count, investment planning for SCM (warehousing, automation, systems) in conjunction with finance & operations.
6. Cross-functional Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Work with Production/Operations, Quality, Business Excellence, Engineering, Sales/Marketing, Finance, and IT to ensure SCM supports business needs and strategic growth.
- Lead and develop the SCM team: define roles, drive capability building, and mentor next generation.
7. Risk Management, Compliance & Sustainability
- Identify supply chain risks (supplier failure, logistics disruption, and regulatory/import-export) and develop mitigation plans.
- Ensure compliance with trade laws, customs, safety, environment, quality standards relevant to SCM operations.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- 12-17 years of experience in Supply Chain / Procurement / Logistics in a manufacturing environment; of which 5-10 years in a senior leadership position.
- Strong experience in manufacturing supply chain (including planning, procurement, logistics, inventory, warehousing) ideally within the relevant industry vertical.
- Demonstrated track record of building and leading teams, driving SCM performance improvements and cost optimisation.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and analytics tools.
- Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking and change management skills.
