About the Role:
We are hiring for one of India's fastest-growing premium kids' essentials brands, building bold, design-led products across lunchboxes, bottles, bags and tableware products kids love and parents trust, each one engineered around child-first safety and design. You will be directly partnering with the founders; who are IIM-A and ex employees of Amazon, Flipkart and Uber India.
The Head of Supply Chain leads the upstream supply organisation the function accountable for identifying the right products, developing the supplier base that manufactures them, and assembling them into finished goods ready for fulfilment. The role unifies three connected disciplines under a single, commercially minded leader: product sourcing, vendor development, and in-house assembly.
Reporting to the Co-Founder, youll establish and scale a deep, resilient and cost-efficient supply base as Basil grows and expands its categories directing the sourcing teams that introduce new products, the field-based vendor-development network that develops manufacturers across India and overseas, and the assembly operation that converts components into finished goods. You own supply, cost and availability, and represent them in the monthly S&OP alongside Operations and Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing & Product Discovery:
- Own product sourcing and selection across categories identifying products aligned to Basils target customer, price architecture and safety standards, and introducing them to market under the brand.
- Direct the category sourcing teams and lead commercial negotiation price, MOQs, payment terms and lead times driving sustained improvement in landed cost.
Vendor Development & Factory Network:
- Lead the field-based vendor-development network that identifies, qualifies, onboards and develops manufacturers across Indias clusters and overseas, including China.
- Strengthen supply resilience through dual-sourcing of all critical products, and coordinate imports and inbound logistics to ensure goods are landed on time at optimal landed cost.
Assembly:
- Oversee the in-house assembly operation, ensuring incoming components are converted into finished, dispatch-ready goods to defined quality and output standards, and transferred cleanly to Fulfilment.
Leadership, Cost & Governance:
- Build, structure and develop the supply-chain organisation and its leadership across sourcing, vendor development and assembly.
- Own the supply-chain cost line, partner closely with Quality and Finance, and represent supply and availability in the monthly S&OP.
What Were Looking For:
- 5-12 years in supply chain, sourcing, procurement or operations within a physical-product business, including substantial experience leading the function, preferably in consumer products, D2C, e-commerce or retail.
- Demonstrated command of product sourcing and vendor development establishing supplier bases, qualifying manufacturers, and managing both direct and indirect procurement.
- Experience overseeing assembly, production or in-house value-add operations, and familiarity with imports and inbound logistics, is advantageous.
- A proven record of building and leading multi-team organisations and developing the leaders within them.
- Strong commercial and analytical judgement, with the willingness to travel for vendor, factory and cluster visits.
