Purpose of the job: Manage the central sourcing function through an optimal vendor base (local and international) to ensure timely manufacturing of garments as per design specifications and quality standards while maintaining costs as projected. Also manage the technical function, providing expertise on garment technology and working on developing new products. Role & Responsibilities: Vendor Management: - Create and manage an optimal vendor base both locally and internationally to manufacture garments as per cost and quality requirements of the businesses. - Ensure adequate due diligence for quality, manufacturing and financial capabilities at the time of choosing a vendor. - Create a contractual relationship where terms & conditions (on delivery, cost, quality) are clearly agreed upon and stringent penalty clauses are in place to prevent violation of such terms - Conduct periodic assessment of vendors on quality and delivery performance - Build a healthy rapport so that the vendor is willing to stretch / prioritize to fulfill critical orders on time - Explore international vendors in terms of commercial / contractual and technical aspects and liaison with them to leverage those strengths Sourcing Activities: - Anchor the pre-season planning based on overall capex plan, business overview and timelines; close financing and commercial terms with the vendors for the season - Review the sourcing activities spanning various stages from sampling and initial costing, to coordinating for bulk production based on finalized sample - Ensure timelines are met for the various seasons - Cost Control: Ensure rationalization of vendor base - Create dedicated vendors for a category Ensure negotiation on terms & conditions Drive improvements in the vendor capabilities Periodically meet with mills / vendors to stay updated and also to explore their in-house options on new products, cost savings, etc. Quality Function: - Ensure the quality right from the raw materials to the processing at factories to garments reaching the stores. - Quality also extends to customer returns if any. Technical & Product Development function: - Drive development of new products in terms of fabrics, chemicals, trims, wash and finishes - to meet the requirements of the Business Units as well as on a proactive basis. - Provide technical support to the designers on fit, interlining, thread, wash care instructions, etc. and translate their requirements to specifications and 3D sample.
