The Head of Procurement - Raw Materials will provide strategic leadership for the end-to-end procurement and sourcing function of our integrated steel plant. This pivotal role involves ensuring the uninterrupted supply of all materials-from bulk raw materials and consumables to high-value CAPEX-while driving cost optimization, fostering robust vendor relationships, and ensuring strict compliance. The successful candidate will be instrumental in enhancing business profitability and supporting the company's sustainable growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Strategic Leadership & Cost Optimization:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the company's financial and operational goals.
- Lead techno-commercial negotiations for high-value contracts, long-term agreements (LTAs), and strategic supplies to secure competitive advantages.
- Drive aggressive cost optimization programs through initiatives like reverse auctions, direct OEM sourcing, global tendering, and value engineering.
- Monitor and analyze global and domestic commodity price trends to mitigate risks and capitalize on market opportunities.
Bulk Raw Material & Consumables Procurement:
- Direct the sourcing and procurement of all critical bulk raw materials, including iron ore, coke, coking/non-coking coal, pellets, sinter, PCI coal, ferroalloys, refractories, and scrap.
- Oversee the procurement of essential consumables and spares for all plant units: Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Mini Blast Furnace (MBF), Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), and Rolling Mills.
- Ensure the timely availability of key inputs like Graphite Electrodes, Lime, Dolomite, Slabs, Billets, Rolls, Lubricants, and Bearings.
Vendor & Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build, manage, and sustain a resilient global and domestic vendor network to ensure the consistent supply of quality materials.
- Establish strategic long-term supply contracts and develop robust alternate sourcing channels to mitigate supply chain risks.
- Lead vendor audits, performance reviews, and supplier development initiatives to foster partnership and continuous improvement.
Systems, Compliance & Logistics:
- Drive the digitization of the entire Procure-to-Pay (P2P) cycle using ERP systems like SAP MM / S/4HANA or Ariba.
- Develop and present procurement dashboards, KPIs, and MIS reports for senior management review, enabling data-driven decision-making.
- Lead logistics management for domestic and imported materials, including negotiations for Letters of Credit (LC), Customs House Agents (CHA), and freight.
- Ensure 100% adherence to all statutory, legal, and environmental regulations related to procurement.
Desired Candidate Profile:
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Industrial Engineering is required.
- Preferred: An MBA in Supply Chain, Operations, or Materials Management will be a significant advantage.
- Experience:20 to 28 years of extensive experience in procurement and supply chain management, with a strong and mandatory background in large-scale Integrated Steel Plants or the Metals Industry.
