Role Overview

The Head of Procurement will lead end-to-end sourcing and supply activities for a multi-product trading and distribution organization. The role requires strong commercial judgment, market intelligence, international sourcing exposure, and deep category expertise across petrochemicals, chemicals, polymers, and metals.

This position is accountable for profitable buying, competitive pricing, supply continuity, and building long-term strategic supplier partnerships to support business growth.


Key Responsibilities

A) Strategic Sourcing & Category Management

- Develop and execute sourcing strategies across multiple categories including petrochemicals, bulk & specialty chemicals, polymers, and metals.

- Identify, evaluate, and onboard domestic and international suppliers, traders, and manufacturers.

- Track global commodity trends, pricing cycles, and market movements to enable informed sourcing decisions.

- Assess market risks and manage price volatility and hedging strategies (where applicable).


B) Procurement Operations

- Own end-to-end procurement operations including RFQs, negotiations, contracting, purchase orders, delivery coordination, and payment cycles.

- Ensure competitive landed pricing to optimize trading margins.

- Oversee imports, exports, bulk cargo, break-bulk, and containerized shipments.

- Collaborate with logistics teams to optimize transportation, storage, and distribution networks.


C) Vendor & Supplier Relationship Management

- Build and sustain long-term global supplier partnerships to secure allocations, priority supply, and favorable commercial terms.

- Conduct supplier evaluations, performance reviews, and compliance audits.

- Lead negotiations for annual rate contracts, volume agreements, and price protection mechanisms with principals.


D) Market Intelligence & Demand Planning

- Provide weekly and monthly insights on market trends, pricing movements, inventory positions, and demand outlook.

- Partner closely with sales teams to align sourcing with forecasted demand, pipeline orders, and customer commitments.

- Recommend strategic stocking, bulk buying, or spot purchasing based on market opportunities and risk assessment.


E) Team Leadership & Capability Building

- Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-category procurement and sourcing team.

- Build strong category expertise and succession pipelines within the function.

- Define KPIs, monitor performance, and drive high productivity and accountability across the team.
