
Position Overview:
The Plant - Industrial Relations (IR) Head will lead the IR/ER function at the upcoming car manufacturing plant in Aurangabad. This role is critical in building and sustaining harmonious employee relations, ensuring 100% statutory compliance, and driving workplace discipline and engagement. The Plant IR Head will partner with the HR Head and Plant Leadership to create a stable, productive, and legally compliant work environment that enables smooth plant start-up and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Industrial Relations Strategy & Policy
- Formulate and implement IR strategy and policies aligned with the company's business objectives and legal framework.
- Build proactive relationships with employees, unions, and local authorities to foster industrial harmony.
- Advise management on labor laws, government notifications, and potential IR risks.
2. Union Relations & Collective Bargaining
- Act as the primary interface with trade unions and workmen representatives.
- Lead negotiations for wage settlements, long-term agreements (LTS), and other collective bargaining processes.
- Ensure that all agreements are legally sound, sustainable, and aligned with organizational goals.
3. Statutory Compliance & Legal Management
- Ensure 100% compliance with all applicable labor laws, factory acts, environmental and safety legislations.
- Prepare for and handle government inspections, audits, and returns in a timely manner.
- Liaise with legal counsel and represent the organization in conciliation proceedings, labor courts, and statutory bodies if required.
4. Grievance Handling & Discipline
- Establish and oversee a robust grievance redressal mechanism for timely resolution of employee issues.
- Handle disciplinary cases, domestic inquiries, and terminations in line with company policy and statutory requirements.
- Promote fair, transparent, and consistent handling of workplace disputes to prevent escalation.
5. Workforce Engagement & Communication
- Drive initiatives that promote open communication and trust between management and employees.
- Facilitate workmen engagement programs to enhance morale, productivity, and commitment.
- Work closely with HR and Operations to roll out employee welfare schemes effectively.
6. Risk Management & Conflict Prevention
- Continuously monitor workplace climate to identify early warning signs of unrest or dissatisfaction.
- Implement preventive measures to avoid strikes, lockouts, or productivity losses.
- Train line managers and supervisors on IR best practices and compliance awareness.
7. Collaboration with HR & Plant Leadership
- Work with the HR Head to align IR initiatives with overall HR strategy.
- Support workforce planning, policy formulation, and cultural initiatives from an IR perspective.
- Participate in plant leadership reviews to report on IR status, risks, and opportunities.
