Job Title: Head of Marketing

Company: Leading Medical Devices Manufacturer, Distributor & Exporter

Reporting to: CEO

Location: Bangalore

Role Context

Marketing at the Company is fundamentally about clinical credibility, surgeon confidence, and adoption in the OT. It is about educating surgeons, engaging opinion leaders, building evidence, and enabling the field force to have high-quality clinical conversations while also building the brand, digital presence, and market intelligence needed to compete globally.

The Head of Marketing will own the end-to-end agenda across surgeon education, KOL engagement, CMEs, new product introductions, clinical evidence generation, structured training for customers and sales teams, and the Company's broader brand, digital, and market-research strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Surgeon Education & CME Programs:

- Design and execute a structured, year-round education calendar for surgeons across specialties.

- Plan and deliver CMEs, workshops, cadaver labs, suturing technique programs, hands-on OT trainings, and peer-led forums.

- Ensure programs are practical, technique-focused, and relevant to real-world surgical workflows.

- Maintain high standards of scientific accuracy, ethics, and compliance.

2. KOL Engagement & Faculty Development:

- Identify, engage, and develop a strong network of senior and upcoming surgeon KOLs.

- Build long-term relationships based on trust, outcomes, and academic contribution.

- Enable KOLs to lead workshops, speak at CMEs, support trials, and guide product evolution.

- Track depth of engagement and influence, not just number of events.

3. Product Positioning & Portfolio Strategy:

- Own clinical positioning of the sutures/endosurgery/hernia/energy/implants portfolio across indications, procedures, and surgeon segments.

- Develop clear differentiation versus competitors on handling, knot security, tensile strength, tissue response, and outcomes.

- Create product-wise playbooks for field teams covering usage, conversion triggers, and objections.

- Support portfolio rationalization and prioritization based on surgeon feedback and adoption trends.

4. New Product Launches (NPL):

- Lead end-to-end launch planning for new products.

- Define launch strategy: target procedures, surgeon cohorts, training requirements, and sequencing.

- Coordinate pre-launch surgeon trials, evaluations, and feedback loops.

- Ensure seamless coordination between R&D, manufacturing, regulatory, sales, and supply chain.

5. Clinical Trials & Evidence Generation:

- Work closely with clinical, regulatory, and external investigators to support trials and evaluations.

- Identify priority indications and centres for clinical studies and post-marketing surveillance.

- Translate clinical data into credible, usable material for surgeon discussions and CMEs.

- Ensure ethical conduct, documentation, and compliance in all trial-related activities.

6. Sales Team Enablement & Training:

- Build structured induction and advanced training programs for the field force.

- Ensure sales teams are confident on product science, surgical techniques, and competitive positioning.

- Design certification, refresher, and assessment mechanisms.

- Accompany field teams regularly to observe surgeon interactions and sharpen messaging.

7. Customer Training & Adoption:

- Design programs for surgeons, residents, OT staff, and nursing teams on correct product usage.

- Enable on-site, hub-based, and virtual training formats.

- Drive faster trials-to-adoption conversion through structured follow-ups.

8. Conferences, Workshops & Academic Presence:

- Own strategy for national and regional surgical conferences.

- Curate scientific sessions, workshops, live demos, and faculty engagement.

- Ensure post-event follow-through leading to trials, evaluations, and conversions.

9. Brand, Digital Marketing & Market Intelligence:

- Own the Company's overall brand strategy and identity across domestic and international markets.

- Lead digital marketing website, SEO/SEM, social, LinkedIn, and email to support sales and international distributor lead generation.

- Develop marketing collateral (brochures, technical literature, case studies, videos) in partnership with R&D/clinical teams to ensure scientific accuracy.

- Own market research and competitive intelligence to inform product, positioning, and pricing strategy.

- Manage relationships with design, PR, and media agencies; own the marketing budget and track ROI.

- Partner with the Exports/International Business team to localize marketing materials and campaigns for priority markets.

10. Cross-Functional Leadership & Governance:

- Work closely with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Sales.

- Ensure all activities adhere to industry codes, ethical standards, and internal governance.

- Build strong documentation, approval, and audit-ready processes.

- Build and lead a marketing team (brand, digital, design, content) with clear processes and performance metrics.

- Support leadership with investor and board-facing brand/market positioning materials as needed.

Key KPIs:

- Quality and impact of surgeon education programs

- Strength and depth of KOL relationships

- Success of new product launches and speed of adoption

- Sales team capability improvement

- Trial-to-conversion rates

- Digital engagement and qualified lead generation

- Marketing budget efficiency and ROI

- Compliance and audit outcomes

Experience:

- 15+ years of experience in sutures, staplers, meshes, surgical devices, implants, or closely related segments.

- Deep familiarity with surgeon engagement, OT dynamics, and procedure-based selling.

- Hands-on experience with new product launches and clinical evaluations.

- Track record of working closely with field sales teams.

- Experience building brand, digital marketing, and market research capability, ideally across domestic and export markets.

Capabilities:

- Strong clinical understanding of surgical procedures and materials.

- High credibility with surgeons and KOLs.

- Ability to balance scientific depth with commercial outcomes.

- Strong digital marketing and brand-building capability.

- Proven experience managing marketing budgets, agencies, and building/leading a team.

- Willingness to spend significant time in the field and in OTs.
