Job Title: Head Logistics


Department: Logistics


Job Grade: M2 M3


Location: HSCL - Plants


Reports To: Plant Head


PURPOSE:


Responsible for ensuring the right products are delivered to the right location on time, to the quality required and in the most cost effective way. Oversees the distribution and transportation of goods from the manufacturer to the consumer. Dependent on the size and structure of the organisation, may plan and oversee the whole process or may work in part of the chain.


DIRECT REPORTS:


All the Lead Logistics / Shift-in-Charges will directly report to the position.


DIMENSIONS OF POSITION / KPI:


- To ensure the entire logistics operation runs at an economical cost while keeping commercial profitability in mind


- To monitor and keep control on Shortage/ Damage etc and take corrective actions in coordination with Production and Process department wherever necessary.


- To ensure overall supervision and control on Material Handling, Planning, Programming, Loading, Unloading, receipts and dispatches of all the Units.


- To ensure speedy processing and settlement of claims for transit losses incurred due to unforeseen events as per company policies and applicable laws


AREA OF OPERATION:


As a Head of Logistics, supervises the movement, distribution, and storage of supplies and materials in a company. They are tasked with planning routes, analyzing budgets, and processing shipments.


KEY RESULT AREAS:


General and Task Management:


- To conceptualize and develop cost and performance effective methods of logistics operation


- To ensure MIS which transpire clear position of logistics function leading to efficient and effective Planning, Scheduling and dispatching conforming to marketing plan.


- To do regular analysis of Time loss, Customer Complaints, Idle time of Vehicles, TAT of vehicles, Detentions, Delays, Fuel Consumption, Vehicle running costs, Vehicle maintenance costs, Incidental Costs, Derivers performance, related others and take corrective measures briefing the President and taking decisions.


- To be involved in procurement of Raw Materials, Capital Equipment, Components and the like as necessary


- To ensure liaison with other units, customers, regulatory authorities, external agencies and others


- To monitor tanker, truck, cargo consignments on day to day basis


- Negotiate rates and contracts with transportation and logistics providers


- Recommend optimal transport modes, routes or frequency


- Select carriers/suppliers and monitor service against performance criteria


- Ensure carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery


- Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports or exports or customer issues


- Ensure proper sealing of vehicles (RM & FG both) of entire destination.


- Review impact of logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or carriers and report results to others


- Assess and make recommendations for logistics processes in potential new facilities or plants and advise of cost implications and efficiency


- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimisation opportunities


- Ensure the integrity of inventory accuracy and manage stock movements with the help of direct reports


- Identify and resolve any inventory discrepancies and ensure inventory and system records are in agreement


- Keep track of slow moving and obsolete stock


- Identify savings by removing waste or unnecessary steps in the logistics process


- Interpret trends and analyze and review data. Provide meaningful logistics data to others in the organisation to aid customer service and cost improvements


- Ensure IT systems in place are effective, maintained and accurate


- To strategically negotiate with outside Transporters for ex-factory delivery to various destinations and monitoring performance of them


- To ensure Insurance claims & settlements against transporters


- Introduce and consistently maintain ISO standards in all activities as required


People Management:


- Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within area of accountability


- Manage, coach and develop a high performing manufacturing team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements


- Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports


- Provide technical expertise to the team


Safety & Environment:


- Ensure that the Logistics function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors


- Review environmental strategies that impact on future ways of operating and ensure implementation where possible


- Review the use of technological systems that support a more environmentally friendly approach

QUALIFICATIONS:


- Full time B.E./B.Tech in Relevant business/commercial or manufacturing/engineering degree from a recognized Institute / University.


KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:


- 18-25 years of experience of working in logistics/supply chain/transportation function within the automotive or manufacturing environment with a comprehensive knowledge of logistics processes and procedures


- Expert knowledge of technical regulations related to logistics such as import/export and customs regulations, including security requirements to include certification in dangerous goods handling and aviation security


- High degree of knowledge and understanding of a variety of manufacturing and automotive processes and components and of supply chain management


- Strong IT systems knowledge and skills including knowledge and understanding of specialist systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Bill of Material (BOM) and customer data systems


- Ability to analyze and manipulate technical and complex data and provide meaningful information


- Knowledge of lean techniques may be advantageous.
