Job Title: Head of Logistics
Location: India - Multiple Locations
Role Overview:
The Head of Logistics will lead and oversee end-to-end logistics operations for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing and project execution. This role is responsible for managing domestic and international logistics, ensuring efficient supply chain operations, cost optimisation, and compliance with regulatory requirements for import/export activities.
Key Responsibilities:
End-to-End Logistics Management
- Lead and manage complete logistics operations for BESS manufacturing and project sites.
- Ensure timely movement of raw materials, components, and finished goods.
- Coordinate with procurement, production, and project teams to align logistics planning with business needs.
Transportation & Distribution
- Oversee domestic and international transportation (road, rail, sea, air).
- Optimize transportation routes, modes, and costs.
- Manage movement of heavy/oversized cargo (project logistics).
EXIM (Export-Import) Operations
- Handle all import/export documentation and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to customs regulations, DGFT norms, and international trade laws.
- Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities.
Customs Clearance & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure smooth customs clearance with minimal delays.
- Monitor changes in trade regulations and implement required processes.
- Maintain compliance with GST, duties, and other statutory requirements.
Freight & Cost Optimization
- Negotiate contracts with logistics service providers and freight partners.
- Monitor freight costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and improve efficiency.
- Develop logistics budgets and track performance against KPIs.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with transporters, shipping lines, CHA agents, and logistics vendors.
- Evaluate vendor performance and ensure service quality.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across supply chain and project teams.
Project Logistics (EPC Environment)
- Plan and execute logistics for large-scale BESS/EPC projects.
- Manage site deliveries, scheduling, and coordination for critical equipment.
- Handle complex logistics challenges including remote locations and heavy cargo.
Risk Management & Process Improvement
- Identify logistics risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Implement digital tools and best practices to improve logistics efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across logistics operations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred).
- Minimum 15 years of experience in logistics and EXIM operations.
- At least 5 years in a leadership role heading logistics functions.
- Prior experience in BESS / Battery / Solar / EPC / Heavy Engineering industries preferred.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of EXIM regulations, customs procedures, and international trade.
- Expertise in project logistics and handling heavy/over-dimensional cargo.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP/Oracle) and logistics tools.

- On-time delivery performance
- Freight cost optimization
- Customs clearance cycle time
- Logistics cost as % of revenue
- Vendor performance metrics
Preferred Candidate Profile:
