Job Description:


We are currently recruiting for a Head of Knowledge Management (KM) for a Tier 1 law firm in Mumbai. This role is directly going to work with the Managing Partner of the firm.

Role Overview:

This Head Knowledge Management will be responsible for building, leading, and scaling the firms knowledge management function. The role will closely partner with Partners and senior lawyers across practice areas to enhance legal knowledge sharing, precedent management, research quality, and overall practice efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Knowledge Strategy & Leadership:

- Define and execute the firms KM strategy aligned with practice and business priorities.

- Act as the central authority on knowledge governance, quality, and best practices.

- Partner with firm leadership and Practice Heads on knowledge development and standardisation.

Precedents, Templates & Content:

- Oversee creation, maintenance, and quality control of precedents, templates, playbooks, and practice notes.

- Ensure consistency, version control, and effective taxonomy across KM materials.

- Drive documentation standardisation to improve efficiency and risk management.

Legal Research & Thought Leadership:

- Lead high-quality legal research support for Partners and fee earners.

- Track key legal and regulatory developments and prepare internal and client-facing updates.

- Support Partners on thought leadership, articles, and presentations.

Practice Support & Training:

- Work closely with practice groups to support transactions, advisory work, and litigation strategies.

- Enable cross-practice knowledge sharing and best-practice adoption.

- Design and support internal training programs and structured learning initiatives.

- Technology, Business & Client Support

- Lead KM platforms and legal tech adoption, including process improvement and automation initiatives.

- Support business development through pitches, RFPs, credentials, and deal experience.

- Contribute to client-facing knowledge products and value-add initiatives.

- Team Management & Governance

- Build and manage the KM / PSL / Research team.

Candidate Profile:

- 8-10 years PQE, with strong exposure to Knowledge Management / PSL / Research roles.

- Prior experience in a top-tier law firm strongly preferred; open to candidates from Big 4 legal practices.

- Strong understanding of transactional and/or advisory legal work across major practice areas.

- Proven ability to work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders.

- Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.

- Commercial mindset with an interest in process improvement and innovation.

- Strong people management and stakeholder management capabilities.
