Head - Indirect Taxation
Role Overview :
- This pivotal leadership role involves spearheading all aspects of indirect taxation, ensuring robust compliance, strategic advisory, and effective litigation management across the organisation. The Head of Indirect Taxation will be instrumental in navigating the complexities of GST, Service Tax, and Excise regulations, providing critical insights to senior leadership, and collaborating closely with finance, legal, and business unit heads.
- This role directly impacts the company's financial health by optimising tax positions, mitigating risks, and fostering a culture of strong tax governance, ultimately contributing to sustainable business growth and operational efficiency.
Indirect Tax Strategy & Advisory :
- Develop and implement indirect tax strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Advise management on tax implications of business transactions, contracts, and new ventures.
Compliance & Governance :
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of GST, customs, excise, and VAT returns.
- Oversee tax audits, assessments, and reconciliations.
- Establish robust internal controls to minimize tax risks.
Litigation Management :
- Lead all indirect tax litigation matters before tribunals, appellate authorities, and courts.
- Coordinate with external counsel and represent the company in hearings.
- Draft and review legal submissions, appeals, and responses to notices.
Stakeholder Management :
- Liaise with government authorities, regulators, and industry bodies.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (finance, legal, operations) to ensure tax efficiency.
Team Leadership :
- Build and mentor a high-performing indirect tax team.
- Drive knowledge-sharing and continuous learning within the department.
Qualifications :
- Chartered Accountant (CA) or MBA - Finance with specialization in taxation.
- 10-15 years of experience in indirect tax, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of handling complex litigation and advisory matters.
Skills & Competencies :
- Deep knowledge of GST, customs, excise, VAT, and international indirect tax frameworks.
- Strong litigation management and drafting skills.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication abilities.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and regulators.
- Leadership and team development capabilities.
