
Key Responsibilities:
Exploration & Resource Development:
- Lead and manage all exploration and resource development activities for Potash, Phosphate and other minerals projects.
- Develop and implement exploration strategies, drilling programs, and resource expansion initiatives.
- Oversee geological, geophysical, geochemical, hydrogeological, and drilling programs.
- Direct geological modelling and mineral resource estimation activities in accordance with internationally recognized reporting standards, including: SAMREC and other applicable standards.
- Identify opportunities to optimize resources and enhance project economics.
Resource Estimation & Technical Studies:
- Lead the preparation, review, and management of: Scoping Studies, Pre-Feasibility Studies (PFS), and Definitive/Bankable Feasibility Studies (DFS/BFS).
- Ensure technical studies are completed to international standards and meet the requirements of investors and lenders.
- Integrate geological, mining, processing, hydrogeological, environmental, infrastructure, and logistics considerations into project development strategies.
- Provide technical leadership during project execution and operational readiness stages.
Project Development & Capital Projects Management:
- Manage the entire project development lifecycle from exploration through feasibility and into project implementation and execution.
- Lead the development and review of project capital cost estimates (CAPEX) and execution strategies.
- Coordinate with engineering consultants and EPC/EPCM contractors on process plant design, infrastructure development, and project execution planning.
- Develop tender strategies and manage the preparation and issuance of Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Invitations to Tender (ITTs) for: Engineering studies, Process plant and infrastructure packages, Major equipment procurement, and Mining and construction contracts.
- Evaluate technical and commercial proposals from vendors and contractors and make recommendations for award.
- Coordinate vendor engagement, bid clarifications, and negotiations to optimize project costs and execution schedules.
- Oversee preparation of capital cost estimates and benchmarking of project costs against industry standards.
- Support the development of project execution plans, contracting strategies, procurement plans, and implementation schedules.
- Participate in project financing activities by supporting lender technical due diligence and providing project cost information required by investors and financial institutions.
Government & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the principal technical interface with: Government ministries and regulatory authorities, Mining and environmental regulators, State-owned entities and strategic partners, and Investors, lenders, and financial institutions.
- Lead interactions related to: Licensing and permitting, Project approvals, Regulatory compliance, and Technical submissions and presentations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key government and industry stakeholders.
Consultant & Contractor Management:
- Manage and oversee external technical consultants, engineering companies, laboratories, EPC/EPCM contractors, and specialist advisors.
- Review and approve technical reports, studies, and deliverables prepared by third-party consultants.
- Ensure work undertaken by consultants meets international technical and reporting standards and aligns with project objectives.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to deliver project milestones on time and within budget.
Leadership & Corporate Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership to the exploration and resource development team.
- Mentor and develop technical staff and build organizational capability.
- Prepare and present technical updates, investment memoranda, and strategic recommendations to: Executive Management, Board of Directors, and Investors and lenders.
- Translate complex technical information into clear business recommendations and support strategic decision-making.
- Act as a key interface between the technical team, executive management, government authorities, consultants, contractors, investors, and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Economic Geology, Mining, Mining Geology, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualifications (MSc or PhD) are highly desirable.
- Professional registration and Competent/Qualified Person status under internationally recognized reporting codes is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, with substantial experience in: Potash and/or Phosphate exploration, Resource estimation and reporting, Feasibility studies, Project development and execution, and Capital project development and cost estimation.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects from exploration through feasibility and into implementation.
- Extensive experience with: Sedimentary phosphate deposits and Evaporite-hosted potash deposits.
- Strong understanding of international reporting standards, including: JORC, NI 43-101, and SAMREC.
- Experience managing EPC/EPCM consultants, tendering processes, and major project procurement packages is highly desirable.
