Head Equity Research (BFSI)

Location: Mumbai

Organization: Leading Institutional Investor / Asset Management Platform

Role Overview:

The organization is seeking a seasoned Equity Research leader to head BFSI sector research, drive investment insights, and support portfolio construction across financial services including banks, NBFCs, insurance, capital markets, fintech, and diversified financials.

The role will anchor sector strategy, idea generation, valuation frameworks, and investment conviction for long-term institutional portfolios. A strong buy-side research background is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

BFSI Sector Leadership:

- Lead research coverage across Banks, NBFCs, Insurance, AMC, Broking, Fintech

- Develop sector outlook, thematic views, and investment frameworks

- Identify structural winners and risks across financial services

- Drive deep fundamental analysis and long-term investment theses

Investment Idea Generation:

- Generate high-conviction buy/sell recommendations

- Build detailed financial models and valuation frameworks

- Identify alpha opportunities across market cycles

- Support portfolio positioning and allocation decisions

Portfolio Support:

- Partner with CIO / Fund Managers on investment strategy

- Provide entry/exit views and risk assessment

- Track portfolio BFSI exposures and performance drivers

- Support investment committee discussions

Research Process & Quality:

- Establish research standards and methodologies

- Drive channel checks, management interactions, and field research

- Maintain sector databases, models, and dashboards

- Ensure high-quality documentation and investment notes

Market & Stakeholder Engagement:

- Engage with company managements and industry experts

- Build strong networks across BFSI ecosystem

- Represent firm in investor forums and industry discussions

- Track regulatory and macro developments impacting sector

Team Leadership:

- Lead and mentor BFSI analysts

- Allocate coverage and research priorities

- Build next-line research leadership

- Enhance analytical depth and investment rigor

Ideal Candidate Profile:

- 15 - 20 years in BFSI Equity Research

- Strong preference: Buy-side (AMC, PMS, AIF, Insurance, Family Office)

- Deep coverage of Banks & NBFCs mandatory

- Proven investment calls and performance attribution

- Strong modeling & valuation capability

- Credibility with CIOs / Fund Managers
