Job Description:

1) Lead a team of engineers for supporting and rendering engineering expertise for the project engineering activities related to Steel Melting Shop of an integrated steel plant.

2) Conceptualize the Steel Melting shop of a steel plant from scratch including:

- Selection of process route

- Calculations and selection of facilities required to achieve the target production and quality

- Preparation of layout of the shop

3) Preparation of concept notes, material flow sheets/balances, PFDs and P&IDs.

4) Preparation and checking of assignment drawings for civil and structure.

5) Coordinate with technology supplier and engineering agencies and equipment vendors for timely delivery of engineering of project.

6) Preparation and release of specifications of SMS equipment, tender appraisal for technological and mechanical equipment

7) Checking of vendor drawings/approval and QAPs

8) Coordination with project departments/consultants/vendors/ Contracts and procurement departments and other engineering department.

9) Ensure compliance of safety standards during engineering stage of the project stage itself, while approving the engineering.

10) Capex and Opex estimation of Steel Making shop

11) Maintain the engineering at centralized documentation center

12) Value engineering in terms of review of major engineering deliverables before execution for a possible value addition in order to optimize the Capex and Opex.

13) Take up possible reverse engineering for any spare parts or engineering of small facilities which can be done internally without depending on external consultants.

14) Understanding of entire project planning and engineering lifecycle

Major Skillsets required:

1) Must have a fair knowledge of all major processes of a steel meltshop including:

- Desulphurization

- Steelmaking in BOF and EAF technology

- Secondary Metallurgy including Ladle furnace and vacuum degassing

- Continuous casting including both billet and slab caster

2) Must have in depth knowledge of one major processes - Steelmaking or Casting, preferably steelmaking.

3) Must have a fair knowledge of SMS subprocesses such as:

- Slag handling

- Scrap handling

- Hot metal handling

- Ladle preparation

- Handling of semis etc

4) Must have a fair knowledge of the main process equipment as well as the supporting equipment like ladles, slag pots, transfer cars, cranes, ladle tilters etc

5) Must be independently capable of developing the flowsheet of Steel Melt Shop

6) Must be independently capable of making the following process calculation:

- Heat and mass balance

- Production calculation of steelmaking units

- Production calculations of continuous caster

- Slag handling facilities

- Scrap storage facilities

- Requirement of ladles and slag pots

- Billet/Slab storage

7) Must have a fair idea of pollution control like primary and secondary gas cleaning.

8) Must be capable of connecting between different processes of Steel Melt shop.

9) Must be capable of developing the layout of Steel Melt Shop from scratch.

10) Must have a good understanding of the engineering drawings.

11) Should be well versed with the engineering process and tools and software like autocad and 3D

12) Should have a fair knowledge of CAPEX and OPEX of Steel Melt shop

Educational qualifications:

- BE/B-tech (Metallurgy/Mechanical - Metallurgy preferred)

Relevant experience:

- Experience in an engineering firm involved in engineering of Steel Melt shop design

- Minimum execution of one complete Steel Melt Shop project in the engineering firm from concept to commissioning as a process engineer, preferably in a BOF shop. Greenfield project will be an added advantage.

- Project handling/Engineering/Technical sales in an OEM firm will be an added advantage.

- Experience in project construction or plant operation will also be an added advantage.

Technical Competencies:

- Steel making plant overall process and engineering knowledge

- Understanding of different engineering tools and software

- Understanding the basic layout of steel melt shop

- Analytical skills
