Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically sound Head - Design & Engineering to lead our core engineering function. The ideal candidate will take ownership of the end-to-end design lifecycle for utility-scale Solar, Wind, and BESS projects from conceptualization and pre-bid engineering to detailed design, execution support, and commissioning. This is a strategic leadership role that requires a deep understanding of electrical systems, EPC lifecycle management, and design optimization to ensure technical viability and cost-competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed engineering design for large-scale ground-mounted Solar PV, Wind, and BESS projects.
- Prepare, review, and approve critical electrical deliverables including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), plant layouts, string sizing, cable sizing, and earthing/lightning protection systems.
- Design and optimize grid connectivity, power evacuation schemes, and substation interfaces (AIS/GIS).
- Ensure all designs strictly comply with national and international standards (IEC, IS, IEEE, CEA).
Technology, Yield & Equipment Selection:
- Oversee energy yield assessments, system performance analysis, and degradation studies.
- Lead the technical evaluation and selection of critical equipment: PV Modules, Inverters, Transformers, Switchgears, Mounting Structures, and BESS components.
- Evaluate vendor specifications, conduct technical bid evaluations (TBE), and finalize equipment sizing (including battery and battery charger sizing for BESS).
Design Optimization & Cost Reduction:
- Drive continuous value-engineering initiatives to optimize the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) and project NPV.
- Identify opportunities for BOQ reduction, cable routing optimization, and structural/electrical design efficiencies without compromising safety or quality.
- Support the procurement and commercial teams with accurate pre-bid engineering, cost estimation, and technical risk assessment.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Execution Support:
- Collaborate seamlessly with Land Acquisition, Project Execution, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams.
- Provide ongoing technical support to site teams during the construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including statutory bodies, grid authorities (CTU/STU), and lenders/independent engineers (IE) for technical due diligence and approvals.
Experience & Background:
- 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in the Power and Renewable Energy sector.
- Mandatory EPC Background: Must have hands-on experience working in or closely managing EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environments.
- Proven track record of delivering utility-scale Solar and/or Wind projects; BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) integration experience is a strong plus.
Technical Competencies:
- Deep expertise in electrical system design, load flow analysis, short circuit studies, and protection coordination.
- Strong understanding of reactive power compensation (SVC/STATCOM) and grid code compliance.
- Ability to review civil/structural interfaces for electrical equipment (transformer foundations, inverter rooms, control buildings).
Software Proficiency (Must-Have):
- Electrical Analysis: ETAP (or equivalent like DIgSILENT).
- Solar Design & Yield: PVsyst, Helioscope.
- Drafting & Layouts: AutoCAD.
