Job Summary:

The Head of Design & Development Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will lead the end-to-end design, development, and engineering of advanced BESS products and solutions for utility-scale, commercial & industrial (C&I), and renewable energy applications. The role is responsible for product strategy, engineering execution, technology selection, innovation, and ensuring compliance with global standards while leading cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the end-to-end design and development of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products from concept through commercialization.

- Define product architecture, technical roadmap, and technology strategy for BESS solutions.

- Oversee system design including battery modules, battery packs, Battery Management System (BMS), Power Conversion System (PCS), Energy Management System (EMS), thermal management, containerized systems, and balance of plant (BoP).

- Drive new product development (NPD), product validation, prototyping, testing, and certification.

- Lead engineering teams responsible for electrical, mechanical, controls, software, and system integration.

- Ensure compliance with international standards such as IEC, UL, IEEE, NFPA, CE, and applicable grid codes.

- Collaborate with supply chain, manufacturing, quality, procurement, project execution, and service teams for seamless product industrialization.

- Evaluate emerging battery chemistries and energy storage technologies to enhance product competitiveness.

- Establish engineering processes, design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA, PFMEA, and product lifecycle management.

- Manage technical relationships with battery cell suppliers, inverter manufacturers, EMS/BMS vendors, certification agencies, and technology partners.

- Support business development by providing technical leadership during customer engagements, proposals, and solution design.

- Drive cost optimization, value engineering, product reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Build and mentor a high-performing engineering and product development team.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Power Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master's degree is preferred.

- 20+ years of experience in the power, energy, renewable energy, or battery storage industry.

- Extensive experience in the design and development of Battery Energy Storage Systems or related power electronics and energy systems.

- Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery technologies, BMS, PCS, EMS, SCADA, thermal management, grid integration, and renewable energy systems.

- Experience managing large, multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex product development programs.

- Knowledge of international standards, product certification, and safety requirements for BESS.

- Experience working with utility-scale, renewable energy, or industrial energy storage projects is highly desirable.
