Head - Contracts & Commercial - Water Treatment/Waste Management

About the role:

It is a leading group with a range of environmental services and solutions with presence spread pan India through mid sized to large projects.

Key objective of this role is to set up end-to-end contract mechanism and processes, and risk management frameworks for the projects. The role acts as a bridge between engineering, project, legal, finance, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Contract Strategy & Tendering:

- Create framework municipal tender documents.

- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate regulatory, financial, and technical project risks before contract finalization.

- Frame and finalize Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and partner agreements for complex infrastructure bids.

2. Contract Administration & Execution:

- Administer the primary client contract (often with Municipal Corporations) and manage subsequent sub-contracts with OEMs, engineering consultants, and civil contractors.

- Formulate, negotiate, and track variations, amendments, and deviations from the original scope of work.

- Monitor execution timelines against key milestones, SLA metrics, and environmental regulations.

3. Claims & Dispute Resolution:

- Draft, defend, and track commercial claims related to project delays, force majeure, or scope modifications.

- Partner closely with internal external legal teams to handle contract disputes, notices, and arbitration procedures.

4. Vendor & Commercial Negotiation:

- Collaborate with procurement teams to finalize commercial terms with vendors.

- Collaborate with project teams to finalize terms with contractors, consultants.

Experience:

- 20+ years of hands-on experience in contracts management and commercial. 10 years leading the contracts function for infrastructure, waste management, or water/wastewater treatment EPC projects is desired.

Education:

- BE with MBA is desired but not mandatory. Exposure to legal is a must.
