GROUP HEAD OF SUPPLY CHAIN
Job Description - Olympic Group
Reports to Managing Director
Location Group Head Office, Victoria Island, Lagos. Regular presence at the factories for the planning and raw material review, on a cadence to be agreed. Travel to Douala or supplier origins by exception only.
Scope Salient Industries, Shakti Industries, Salient SARL (Cameroon), Salient Rubber Products, Olympic Inks, Stellato Trading DMCC
PURPOSE:
To own the flow of material into, and finished goods out of, the Group's factories - imported, locally sourced and intercompany - from forecast through order, import, clearing and delivery, and through to export shipment, converting a fragmented and reactive function into a planned and time-disciplined one. The role answers three questions reliably for every business unit: what do we need and when, has it been ordered, and will it land on time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning and forecasting:
- Consolidate business unit production plans and sales forecasts into a rolling Group requirement plan by material, grade and entity, covering imported, local and intercompany requirement alike.
- Attend the business unit sales meetings - the demand conversation between the General Manager and the sales team is the primary forecast input, and must be heard first-hand.
- Run the planning and raw material review with each General Manager and factory team on an agreed cadence. The General Manager owns the number; this role owns the method and the discipline.
- Maintain reorder points, safety stock and coverage targets per material and site, allowing for lead times and port variability. Flag coverage gaps and slow-moving stock early.
Ordering, local sourcing and follow-through:
- Issue a consolidated Group order list to Procurement and the Directors on a defined cycle: material, quantity, required-on-site date, latest order date.
- Track every line through to confirmed purchase, and escalate anything unsecured within the agreed window.
- Maintain a single Group view of open, confirmed and in-transit material.
- Local procurement reports into this role: buying of locally sourced raw materials, packaging and consumables against the same requirement plan and the same discipline applied to imports.
- Own the intercompany purchase cycle between Group entities - requirement, pricing basis, documentation and delivery - so that inter-entity supply is planned rather than improvised.
Importation - management and escalation:
- Manage the import team across entities: set the process and the standard, and hold the team to delivery dates rather than running transactions personally.
- Take personal charge of critical matters - Customs classification, valuation and queries, NAFDAC, SON/SONCAP, Form M and PAAR complications.
- Escalate directly with suppliers and shipping lines during delays, with the local import manager.
- Manage forwarders, clearing agents and hauliers on measured performance: scorecards, service levels and periodic tendering.
- Enforce pre-shipment document checks so errors are not discovered at the port, and keep the shipping schedule accurate as a single source of truth.
Exportation and outbound:
- Oversee the export of finished goods from Group entities to regional and international customers: set the export process and standard, and hold the export and logistics teams to shipment dates.
- Take personal charge of export compliance and documentation - NXP, CCI, export proceeds repatriation in line with CBN requirements, certificates of origin (including ECOWAS ETLS / CEMAC), Customs export declarations, and any NEPC registration or incentive claims.
- Plan export shipments against customer orders and production plans; book freight and manage forwarders, shipping lines and hauliers on outbound performance.
- Enforce pre-shipment document and quality checks so that no export is held at port or rejected at destination.
- Coordinate cross-border supply between the Nigerian entities, Salient SARL (Cameroon) and Stellato Trading DMCC, with intercompany pricing and documentation in order.
- Report export performance monthly to the Managing Director alongside the import and planning measures.
Cost, systems and reporting:
- Work with Costing to maintain the landed-cost view per tonne and execute a rolling cost improvement plan, supplying the operational root cause behind every variance.
- Own supply chain data integrity across the Group ERP landscape, and work with the analytics function to report from it without parallel spreadsheets.
- Report monthly to the Managing Director on the measures below, with root causes and corrective actions. Set standard supply chain processes across entities, and build the team.
MEASURED ON:
- Primary: Cycle time by stage - order to shipment, shipment to berth, berth to release, release to factory gate. On-time delivery against required-on-site date. Production stoppages from stock-out (target zero). Forecast accuracy by business unit. Order conversion within the agreed window. Demurrage, detention and storage charges (target zero avoidable). Inventory days of cover and obsolete stock. Shipping schedule ETA accuracy. Local vendor delivery reliability and price variance against benchmark.
- Jointly with Costing: Landed cost per tonne by material and entity. Clearing cost per container against benchmark. Delivery of the agreed cost improvement plan.
- Exports: On-time export shipment against customer-required date. Export document error rate. Outbound freight cost per tonne. Export proceeds repatriated on time.
REQUIRED:
- Ten or more years in supply chain, including five leading an import-heavy function in manufacturing.
- Proven management of import, planning and logistics teams. This is a managerial role, not a hands-on expediting one.
- Deep command of Nigerian import process: Form M, PAAR, Customs classification and valuation, NAFDAC, SON/SONCAP, port operations and clearing agent management.
- Working knowledge of Nigerian export procedures - NXP, CCI, export proceeds repatriation - and ECOWAS / CEMAC rules of origin.
- Credibility resolving escalated Customs and regulatory matters directly.
- Strong materials planning - MRP logic, reorder point methodology, coverage planning.
- Numerate and data-literate enough to defend the operational numbers behind a landed-cost model.
- Able to hold General Managers to a planning discipline without line authority over them.
PREFERRED:
Experience across more than one African jurisdiction, with Cameroon or wider CEMAC exposure a distinct advantage. French language ability. Polymer, chemicals or packaging raw material background. ERP or business intelligence exposure. CIPS, CSCP or equivalent certification.
SCOPE ACROSS ENTITIES:
- Nigeria: Salient Industries, Shakti Industries, Salient Rubber Products and Olympic Inks - full accountability from planning through to delivery.
- Cameroon: Salient Industries SARL - full accountability for planning and requirement generation off the sales forecast. Day-to-day import execution stays with the local import manager; this role intervenes with suppliers and shipping lines during delays and sets the planning standard.
- Dubai: Stellato Trading DMCC - included in the consolidated requirement plan and order list.
The scope of the role's commercial mandate may expand over time by agreement with the Managing Director.
