Position Overview
The Head of Supply Chain Management (SCM) will be responsible for establishing, strategizing, and leading the complete end-to-end Supply Chain function of a leading energy manufacturing organization, which operates multiple manufacturing plants in heavy engineering, renewable systems, and energy storage.
This position calls for a techno-commercial leader possessing deep knowledge of industrial procurement, logistics optimization, vendor management, strategic sourcing, manufacturing cost control, and high-level commercial acumen supported by strong technical understanding of products and processes.
Scope of Work:
- Responsible for strategic sourcing, supplier development, negotiation, and long-term procurement planning across all plants.
- Supervise plant SCM heads managing operations for multiple product lines, ensuring all plants operate under a standardized supply chain governance model.
- Oversee inbound and outbound logistics, ensuring Just-in-Time supply and optimized inventory across units.
- Build and monitor Opex and working capital efficiency related to material planning and procurement.
Roles and Responsibilities:
a. Sourcing for Direct Material (BoM Items):
- Define and implement sourcing strategies for all BoM items.
- Negotiate and manage long-term sourcing agreements (LTAs/BPAs) and hedging contracts, where applicable.
- Track global market trends, negotiate price escalations and index-linked contracts.
- Develop tactical sourcing plans for alternate vendors during supply disruptions, urgent demand spikes, or small-volume requirements.
b. Vendor Development & Supplier Relationship Management:
- Identify, onboard, and qualify domestic and global vendors for direct materials.
- Conduct supplier capability audits, initiate trials, and align technical specifications with engineering.
- Develop supplier improvement roadmaps focusing on quality, automation, and process upgrades.
- Collaborate on co-investment or JV opportunities with strategic suppliers.
- Coordinate supplier training and readiness for new product designs and technology changes.
c. Part-Level Supply Chain Management:
- Maintain master part databases linking BoM items to supplier mappings and production plans.
- Implement traceability protocols and version control aligned with Engineering Change Notes (ECNs).
- Ensure robust ECN implementation across procurement, quality, stores, and logistics.
d. Planning, Fulfilment & Inventory Management:
- Build Material Requirement Planning (MRP) systems for raw materials, in-process parts, and finished goods.
- Define inventory strategy by category.
- Initiate purchase requisitions (PRs) per approved S&OP plans, ensuring compliance with sourcing contract terms, supplier lead times, and buffer stock norms.
- Monitor and reduce aging and non-moving inventory through periodic reviews.
e. Stores, Warehousing & Material Handling:
- Establish and manage stores across manufacturing plants.
- Design warehouse layouts suited to material types and flow.
- Track receipts, issues, returns, and quarantines ensuring ERP data accuracy.
- Oversee kitting and staging areas aligned with production sequencing.
f. Logistics & Distribution:
- Optimize routing, freight modes, and fleet sizes for vendor-to-plant movement.
- Negotiate long-term agreements with 3PL logistics providers for consolidated and optimized transportation.
- Ensure permit, packaging, and route readiness for inbound and outbound movements.
- Manage timely customer deliveries and logistics cost efficiency.
Experience and Qualification Requirements:
- Graduate/Postgraduate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (MBA in Supply Chain or Operations preferred).
- Minimum 20 years of total experience with at least 810 years in a senior SCM leadership role within large-scale manufacturing (preferably heavy engineering, power equipment, or renewable sectors).
- Proven ability to establish and lead multi-plant supply chain operations involving global sourcing, logistics, customs, import/export documentation, and vendor development.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing technologies related to heavy industrial equipment, composites, and electro-mechanical assembly.
