Reports to : Head of Engineering / Technical Director

Role Overview:


- This is a mid-senior engineering leadership role responsible for end-to-end mechanical design and development of food processing equipment and machinery.


- The role combines strong hands-on design expertise with technical ownership, team mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration, ensuring machines meet functional performance, hygiene, safety, and regulatory standards.

- The incumbent will drive design quality, manufacturability, cost optimization, and compliance, supporting products from concept through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Leadership & Team Management


- Lead, mentor, and manage the design team to achieve high performance and creativity.

- Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor workload and deadlines.

- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.

- Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training of design staff.

- Drive standardization, modular design, and continuous design improvement initiatives.

2. Creative Direction & Strategy

- Define and implement the overall design strategy and creative direction.

- Ensure brand consistency across all visual and design materials.

- Establish and maintain design standards, guidelines, and best practices.

- Review and approve design concepts and final deliverables.

3. Project & Stakeholder Management

- Manage design deliverables across multiple projects, aligning timelines, priorities, and resources.

- Act as the technical escalation point for complex design or integration challenges.

- Participate in design reviews, prototyping, testing, and validation activities.

- Oversee all design projects from concept through completion.

- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to understand project requirements.

- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to quality standards.

- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.

4. Quality Control

- Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting at customer sites when required.

- Work with sales and application teams to support customer-specific customization from a technical standpoint.

- Ensure all design work meets creative, technical, and brand standards.

- Provide constructive feedback and oversee revisions as required.

- Address design challenges and implement effective solutions.

- Collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Electrical, Automation/Controls, QA/QC, and Procurement teams to ensure complete system integration

5. Collaboration & Communication

- Act as the primary point of contact for all design-related matters.

- Present design ideas, concepts, and strategies to management and stakeholders.

- Coordinate with external vendors, freelancers, or agencies when needed.

6. Process & Resource Management

- Improve design workflows and production processes for efficiency.

- Manage design tools, software, and resources.

- Support budget planning and cost control for the design department.

7. Team Mentoring & Capability Building

- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level design engineers.

- Establish design guidelines, documentation standards, and best practices within the team.

- Support skill development and technical capability building across the design function.

Qualifications & Experience:


- Education: Degree/Diploma Mechanical Engineering/PG with 8+yrs of Experience in similar field. with 3 to 5 Yrs of Experience in handling team size of 3 Members


- Experience: 8-15 years of experience in mechanical design of food processing, packaging, or industrial machinery, with exposure to leading or mentoring teams.

Technical Skills:


- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (complex assemblies and system-level design).

- Working knowledge of AutoCAD for 2D drawings.

- Familiarity with FEA tools, P&ID diagrams, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.

- Good understanding of manufacturing processes such as welding, fabrication, machining, and surface finishing.

- Experience with BOM management and engineering documentation.
