Job Title: Global Tax Manager.
Location: Mumbai office.
Reports to: CFO/Group FD.
Role Overview:
The Global Tax Manager will lead the companys international tax strategy with a strong focus on global project mobility, permanent establishment (PE) risk mitigation, and global banking and cash structure optimization.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, ensuring global tax compliance while actively driving tax efficiency across cross-border projects, entity structures, and financial flows.
This individual will partner closely with Finance, Legal, HR, and Operations to support international growth in a tax-efficient, compliant manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Global Tax Strategy & Optimization:
- Design and execute the companys global tax strategy to support international growth, profitability, and risk management.
- Continuously identify tax optimization opportunities across corporate income tax, withholding tax, cashflow, indirect taxes, and transfer pricing.
- Advise leadership on entity structuring, market entry, and exit strategies from a tax perspective.
Global Project Mobility & Workforce Taxation:
- Lead tax planning and compliance for global project mobility, including:
- Short and long-term international assignments.
- Business/project travelers.
- Cross-border contractors and project teams.
- Assess and manage individual income tax, social security, payroll taxes, and shadow payrolls.
- Develop standardized mobility tax frameworks and cost models to support global project delivery.
- Partner with HR on tax-effective mobility policies and assignment structures.
Permanent Establishment (PE) Risk Management:
- Proactively assess and mitigate PE risks arising from:
- Cross-border projects.
- Traveling employees and executives.
- Sales and delivery teams.
- Develop and maintain PE risk guidelines aligned to OECD standards and local regulations.
- Support contract structuring, project governance, and operational controls to prevent unintended PE creation.
- Lead PE risk audits and coordinate with external advisors where required.
Global Banking & Cash Structure Optimization:
- Partner with Treasury and Finance on global banking and cash structure optimization, including:
- Intercompany funding.
- Cash repatriation.
- Withholding tax minimization.
- Currency and cross-border payment efficiency.
- Advise on tax-efficient cash pooling, intercompany loans, and dividend strategies.
- Ensure alignment between tax strategy and global liquidity management.
Global Compliance & Reporting:
- Oversee global corporate tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
- Manage:
- Corporate income tax filings.
- Indirect taxes (VAT/GST, sales tax).
- Withholding taxes.
- Support tax provisioning, forecasts, and audits.
- Ensure accurate tax treatment under IFRS / US GAAP (as applicable).
Transfer Pricing & Intercompany Matters:
- Oversee global transfer pricing strategy and documentation.
- Ensure defensible pricing for intercompany services, IP, financing, and project delivery.
- Partner with business leaders to align operating models with tax-efficient structures.
Risk Management & Advisory:
- Monitor changes in global tax regulations (OECD, BEPS, Pillar Two, etc.) and assess impact.
- Serve as a trusted internal advisor on all cross-border tax matters.
- Lead tax audits and inquiries with global tax authorities.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and legal firms globally.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or Law.
- CPA, CA, CTA, or equivalent tax qualification strongly preferred.
- 8 - 12+ years of progressive international tax experience in:
- Multinational corporations.
- Big 4 or top-tier tax advisory firms.
- Deep hands-on experience with:
- Global mobility taxation.
- Permanent establishment risk management.
- Cross-border project taxation.
- International banking and cash flow structures.
- Strong understanding of OECD guidelines, BEPS, transfer pricing, and international tax treaties.
