Role Overview:
The GIS Solution Architect will lead the architecture, design, and implementation of Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions across the Energy Distribution business. The role requires deep expertise in platforms like ESRI ArcGIS, and GE Small World, combined with a strong understanding of modern technologies, data integration frameworks, and enterprise architecture. The architect will define the Enterprise Geospatial enablement and GIS roadmap, design enterprise integration architecture for seamless integration with backend enterprise systems like, ERP, SCADA, OMS, AMI, Site Office Systems, and Asset Management. The Architect should be able to drive innovation leveraging advanced geospatial analytics and cloud capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Architecture & Solution Design:
- Define end-to-end GIS solution architecture aligned with the organizations digital roadmap and operational needs.
- Evaluate and recommend technology platforms that can enable G/Engine and E/Engine, tools, and data models for spatial and non-spatial data management.
- Design scalable, secure, and interoperable GIS solutions integrating with core utility systems (e.g., SAP, SCADA, DMS, OMS, CRM, ADMS).
- Design and maintain the Energy Distribution Network Data Model within GIS, ensuring accurate representation of assets, connectivity, and topology across substations, feeders, transformers, and consumers.
2. Technology Leadership:
- Provide strategic direction on adopting new enterprise level GIS technologies, including cloud-based technologies, real-time location intelligence, and digital twin enablement.
- Stay updated with emerging trends in geospatial technologies, including AI/ML based analytics, IoT integrations, and 3D/4D mapping.
3. Implementation & Delivery Oversight:
- Lead and govern the implementation of GIS programs and projects ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and IT governance.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams, business users, and external vendors for successful solution implementations.
- Define technical standards, design patterns, and best practices for GIS deployments.
4. Integration & Data Management:
- Oversee the integration of GIS with enterprise systems for asset, network, and customer management.
- Ensure data quality, accuracy, and synchronization across GIS and operational databases.
- Establish data modelling standards and governance frameworks to ensure consistency, interoperability, and scalability of geospatial data across the distribution network lifecycle.
5. Stakeholder Management:
- Work closely with operations, planning, and field service teams to understand business needs and translate them into GIS-enabled solutions.
- Support business case development for GIS initiatives and drive stakeholder alignment.
- Organize and govern change management.
Technical Expertise:
- Proven hands-on experience with ESRI suite (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcFM) and/or GE Smallworld.
- Exposure to open-source GIS platforms and spatial databases (PostGIS, Oracle Spatial).
- Strong knowledge of GIS Desktop, Mobile and Server Solutions, data integration and migration, web services (REST, SOAP, JSON), and API-based architectures.
- Experience with cloud-based GIS (AWS, Azure, or GCP), microservices, and containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Understanding of spatial analytics, geocoding, network modelling, and real-time monitoring solutions.
Domain Expertise:
- Experience in utilities or energy distribution sector is mandatory.
- Familiarity with network asset management, outage management, distribution planning, and field operations.
