
Market Research Analyst - Solar Energy Domain
Job Description:
A Market Research Analyst in the solar domain is responsible for analyzing market trends, customer needs, competitive landscapes, and policy frameworks to help solar companies make data-driven business decisions. The role involves gathering and interpreting data related to solar technologies, pricing models, supply chains, market demand, incentives, regulations, and competitor activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Market Analysis & Insights:
- Conduct detailed market research on solar PV, solar rooftop, utility-scale projects, solar EPC, BESS (battery storage), and related technologies.
- Track global and regional solar market trends, demand forecasts, pricing trends (modules, inverters, batteries), and capacity installations.
- Analyze policy updates, renewable energy targets, incentives, and regulatory frameworks across markets.
2. Competitor & Industry Analysis:
- Identify key players across modules, inverters, EPC companies, IPPs, and storage manufacturers.
- Compare pricing strategies, market share, product offerings, and technology differentiators.
- Build competitor intelligence reports and benchmarking dashboards.
3. Customer & Demand Research:
- Conduct surveys, interviews, and field research to understand customer preferences in residential, C&I, and utility segments.
- Analyze adoption barriers, cost-benefit expectations, and technology preferences (mono PERC, TOPCon, HJT, BIPV, hybrid inverters, etc.)
4. Data Modelling & Forecasting:
- Develop solar market forecasting models (e.g., CAGR projections, scenario-based models).
- Use financial and technical datasets to predict trends in module prices, energy yields, LCOE, and market growth.
5. Reporting & Presentation:
- Prepare market intelligence reports, whitepapers, and executive presentations.
- Provide inputs for strategy, product development, pricing, and business planning teams.
6. Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Support sales, marketing, product management, and strategy teams with data-driven insights.
- Participate in strategic planning and new market entry assessments.
Job Requirements Education:
Bachelor's or Master's in:
- Renewable Energy
- Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Energy, Environmental)
- Economics, Statistics, or Business Administration
- MBA in Marketing/Strategy (preferred)
Skills & Competencies:
Technical Knowledge (Solar Domain):
- Understanding of solar PV technologies (mono PERC, TOPCon, HJT, thin film).
- Knowledge of solar components: modules, inverters, structures, batteries, BOS.
- Familiarity with EPC project lifecycle, financing models, PPAs, LCOE, IRR, payback.
- Knowledge of policy and regulatory frameworks: MNRE, SECI tenders, state solar policies, global RE policies.
Analytical Skills:
Strong proficiency with data analytics tools:
- Excel/Google Sheets (advanced)
- Power BI / Tableau (preferred)
- Python/R (bonus)
- Ability to interpret market data, build forecast models, and create structured insights.
Research Skills
- Experience with:
o Market mapping

Communication Skills
- Strong presentation and storytelling ability.
- Ability to simplify complex data for non-technical stakeholders.
Experience
3-5+ years of experience in:
- Renewable energy market research
- Consulting firms (energy domain)
- Solar companies (EPC, IPP, manufacturing)
- Energy analytics or policy research firms
