Role: General Manager - Mining Operations

Location: Senegal

Experience: 15+ years in the mining industry, of which 10+ years in large mining operations

Reports to: Site Director / Senior Management

Core Responsibilities:

- Review and guide geological and exploration activities.

- Review and prepare monthly, quarterly, annual and 5-year rolling plans, the Life of Mine Plan, the land acquisition plan and other statutory plans.

- Improve equipment availability and utilisation.

- Carry out due diligence for new deposits and lead their development.

- Lead the planning of annual budgets for production, consumption, manpower, planned stoppages, operational excellence initiatives, top strategic initiatives, the risk framework and human resources skill development programs.

- Develop the overall plan for annual operational KPI targets and the control levers to manage them.

- Convert plans into executable actions and allocate resources.

- Brief teams and individuals on performance management levers and the consequences of implementation failure.

- Review performance KPIs (production, cost, safety, availability) for mine equipment, HSEF and human performance on a bi-weekly basis.

- Identify reasons for low performance and devise actions to achieve targets; brief teams and individuals on root causes and mitigations.

- Co-develop TSI and operational excellence initiatives with Site Direction and management.

- Implement systems and allocate resources to ensure compliance with mining regulations, national safety standards and environmental regulations, including timely submission of compliance reports to government authorities.

- Consult the legal desk regularly for capacity development on compliance matters.

- Inform senior management of any impending danger, production risk, cost escalation, HR issue or other local issue, and suggest mitigation measures.

- Ensure effective communication and reporting to senior management.
