Job Title: General Manager Mining

Location: Central Africa

Department: Mining - Operations

Experience:

Minimum 15 years in mining, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role

Qualification: Bachelors/masters in mining engineering; Mine Managers Certificate of Competency

Employment Type: Full-time / Permanent

Role Overview:

The General Manager Mining will be responsible for end-to-end management of the mining operations, ensuring that production targets are met in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The incumbent will lead a multidisciplinary team and be accountable for operational planning, execution, cost management, compliance, and stakeholder coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Management:

- Oversee day-to-day mining operations (drilling, blasting, hauling, loading, etc.)

- Develop and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual mine plans.

- Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, equipment, and resources

- Have cross-disciplinary understanding of workflow

2. Production & Planning:

- Achieve targeted production volumes within budgeted costs.

- Coordinate with mine planning and geology teams for grade control and pit optimization.

- Develop short- medium and long-term mine plans, and schedules, and capital expenditure (CAPEX) programs

- Be competent in conducting optimizations and mine designs and integrating geotechnical and hydrogeological parameters

- Generate period phases for implementation

- Conduct reconciliation and planned vs achieved outcomes

- Employ continuous improvement practices to enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness

- Experience in mine planning software (Deswik, Surpac, Datamine), Truck dispatch system and ERP tools desirable.

3. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE):

- Ensure strict adherence to statutory safety norms and environmental regulations.

- Promote a safety-first culture and lead incident investigations when necessary.

4. Regulatory Compliance:

- Ensure all mining operations comply with DGMS and other regulatory authorities.

- Maintain updated documentation for audits, licenses, and inspections.

5. Cost & Budget Control:

- Monitor operational costs and implement cost-saving initiatives.

- Prepare and manage annual budgets and forecasts.

6. Team Leadership:

- Lead, mentor, and develop the mining team.

- Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.

7. Stakeholder Coordination:

- Liaise with government bodies, contractors, and local communities.

- Ensure smooth coordination with internal departments (maintenance, logistics, HR, etc.).
