About the Role:

SMARTANK BUSINESS SOLUTIONS is looking for an experienced and results-oriented General Manager - Logistics to lead and manage end-to-end logistics operations in Tanzania. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing transportation, warehousing, inventory management, supply chain planning, and distribution while ensuring operational efficiency, cost optimization, and timely deliveries. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and expertise in logistics management to support business growth and maintain high service standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Logistics & Supply Chain Management:

- Manage end-to-end logistics and supply chain operations.

- Develop and implement logistics strategies to improve operational efficiency.

- Oversee transportation, warehousing, inventory, and distribution activities.

- Ensure timely delivery of goods while maintaining quality and safety standards.

- Monitor logistics KPIs and implement continuous process improvements.

2. Operations Management:

- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily logistics operations.

- Optimize transportation routes and warehouse utilization.

- Ensure compliance with local transportation and customs regulations.

- Manage vendor relationships, freight partners, and third-party logistics providers.

- Minimize logistics costs while maintaining service excellence.

3. Team Leadership:

- Lead, mentor, and develop logistics and warehouse teams.

- Allocate resources effectively to achieve operational goals.

- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

- Conduct regular performance reviews and training initiatives.

4. Inventory & Warehouse Management:

- Ensure accurate inventory planning and stock control.

- Monitor warehouse operations to maintain optimal inventory levels.

- Implement inventory management systems and best practices.

- Reduce inventory losses through effective controls and audits.

5. Compliance & Risk Management:

- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.

- Develop contingency plans to mitigate supply chain disruptions.

- Maintain documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.

- Identify operational risks and implement corrective measures.

6. Reporting & Performance Monitoring:

- Prepare logistics performance reports and operational dashboards.

- Analyze logistics costs, delivery performance, and resource utilization.

- Present operational updates and strategic recommendations to senior management.

- Drive initiatives to improve customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

- 7-10 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or operations management.

- Strong knowledge of transportation, warehousing, inventory management, and distribution.

- Experience in managing large logistics operations and cross-functional teams.

- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

- Proficiency in ERP systems, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and Microsoft Excel.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in international logistics or African markets is an added advantage.

- Certification in Supply Chain Management or Logistics is preferred.

- Knowledge of import/export regulations and customs procedures.

- Experience in process optimization and cost reduction initiatives.
