Position Title: General Manager - Human Resources & Employee Relations

Location: KOLHAPUR, Maharashtra

Reporting Structure: Administrative Reporting: Senior Vice President - Operations, Home Textile

Functional Reporting: Senior General Manager - Human Resources

Role Summary:

The General Manager - HR & Employee Relations will be the senior-most HR leader at the Kagal Home Textile Campus, overseeing HR strategy and operations across five manufacturing facilities. The role entails managing a complex workforce comprising 700 unionized employees, 360 staff, and over 2,500 daily-rated and piece-rated contract workers. The position demands strong expertise in IR, skilling, compliance, government liaison, CSR, and HR digitalization. It is both a strategic and execution-heavy role, crucial to sustaining industrial harmony, productivity, and business continuity.

Direct Reports: AGM - HR & ER, AGM - HR, AGM - Compliance, Manager - Security

Indirect Reports: 11-member HR/ER/Compliance/Admin team

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

- Lead recruitment for staff, unionized workforce, and contract labor (daily rated and piece-rated)

- Develop sourcing strategies tailored for textile operations with a focus on cost, availability, and skill alignment

- Drive localization of manpower through community outreach and tie-ups with training institutes.

Employee Engagement & Retention

- Drive initiatives to enhance morale, productivity, and long-term retention

- Analyze attrition trends and lead targeted retention interventions

- Conduct skip-level meetings, employee connects, and welfare programs across all shifts

Performance Management System (PMS)

- Manage end-to-end PMS lifecycle - goal setting, reviews, evaluations, and appraisals

- Link performance data to rewards, development plans, and succession decisions

- Ensure alignment of individual goals with operational and organizational KPIs

Training, Learning & Skilling

- Lead skilling initiatives under NAPS, NATS, PMIS, and Samarth

- Set up and manage a plant-level Skill Development Center

- Partner with technical and functional leaders to build a structured learning roadmap

Industrial Relations & Compliance

- Maintain harmonious industrial relations with 692 unionized employees

- Lead wage negotiations, long-term settlements, and grievance handling

- Ensure 100% legal compliance (CLRA, Factories Act, ID Act, etc.)

- Drive compliance for social audits and client inspections

Contract Labor Management

- Implement effective engagement, deployment, and retention strategies for ~2,500 contract workers

- Monitor contractor performance, statutory obligations, and cost control

- Ensure fair labor practices and full legal compliance across contractors

Administration, Plant Safety & Security

- Oversee infrastructure, transport, canteen, and housekeeping operations

- Lead the safety and security framework in partnership with EHS and security agencies

- Conduct mock drills, risk assessments, and safety awareness programs

- Government & Political Liaisoning

Build strong relationships with:

- MIDC, Labour Office, Factory Inspectorate, Police & Fire Departments

- Local Political Representatives, Gram Panchayats, and Regional Authorities

- Ensure seamless approvals, issue resolution, and representation in community matters

CSR & Community Engagement

- Lead CSR programs focusing on education, women empowerment, skilling, and community development

- Represent the organization in local social forums and government partnerships

HR Digital Transformation

- Implement HR automation and integration with central systems (e.g., PeopleStrong, SAP HANA)

- Drive paperless workflows for onboarding, attendance, payroll, PMS, and HR analytics

- Enable data-based decision-making across HR functions

- Manufacturing Excellence & Quality Initiatives

Partner with Operations to implement:

- 5S, Six Sigma, Quality Circles

- ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001

Build team capabilities to embed continuous improvement in people processes
