About the Role:
The General Manager - HR will be responsible for leading the entire Human Resources function of the organization, ensuring strategic alignment between business objectives and people practices. The role demands a strong background in industrial relations, labor laws, and statutory compliance, with a proven track record of managing HR operations in a manufacturing or engineering setup.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic HR Leadership
- Drive HR strategy aligned with organizational goals and business growth plans.
- Partner with senior management to design and implement HR policies and frameworks.
- Lead workforce planning, manpower budgeting, and organizational development initiatives.
2. Industrial Relations & Statutory Compliance
- Maintain harmonious industrial relations and manage union negotiations effectively.
- Ensure 100% compliance with all labor laws, Factory Act, and statutory regulations.
- Handle disciplinary proceedings, grievance redressal, and liaise with government authorities.
3. Talent Management & Development
- Oversee recruitment, selection, and retention of key talent across levels.
- Implement performance management systems and leadership development programs.
- Drive training initiatives focused on technical, behavioral, and safety aspects.
4. HR Operations & Policy Management
- Monitor HR processes including payroll, attendance, benefits, and employee engagement.
- Formulate and update HR policies to align with best industry practices.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives within HR systems.
5. Culture & Employee Engagement
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Design employee welfare and engagement programs suited to a plant/engineering workforce.
Need to Have:
- Strategic & Analytical HR Leadership: Ability to analyze workforce data, productivity metrics, and HR cost structures to derive insights that support management in strategic and business decisions.
- System & Process Development: Expertise in conceptualizing, implementing, and optimizing HR systems, frameworks, and governance models that enhance efficiency, compliance, and organizational scalability.
- HR Innovation & Capability Building: Strong understanding of talent investment planning, capability development, and HR-driven innovation projects that align with business and R&D goals.
- Industrial Relations & Compliance Strategy: Proven capability to design proactive IR strategies, strengthen compliance systems, and maintain healthy labor relations across multi-shift plant environments.
Desired Candidate Profile:
- Education: MBA / PGDM in HR or Personnel Management.
- Experience: 15-20 years in HR, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role within the engineering / manufacturing sector.
- Expertise: Labor law, factory act, statutory compliance, industrial relations, talent management, and organizational development.
- Skills: Strategic thinking, leadership, negotiation, communication, and strong people orientation.
