Position Overview:
The General Manager - HR Business Operations will lead the strategic and operational human resources function across multiple sites in India, managing a workforce strength of 50,000+ blue-collar employees and ensuring alignment between HR strategy and business goals.
This role requires a seasoned HR professional with proven expertise in manpower planning, employee engagement, industrial relations, compliance, and HR governance across large-scale, labour-intensive operations. The AVP will act as a strategic business partner to leadership, driving HR transformation, workforce productivity, and organizational capability enhancement across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
1. HR Strategy & Leadership:
- Develop and implement corporate HR strategy, frameworks, and policies aligned with business objectives.
- Drive organization-wide HR transformation, including digitization, analytics, and automation.
- Partner with business leadership to align HR priorities with growth, cost, and people objectives.
2. Workforce Management (Blue Collar & Multi-Site Operations):
- Lead manpower planning, deployment, and retention across 50,000+ employees across India.
- Ensure workforce optimization through structured recruitment, rotation, and productivity programs.
- Monitor attendance, attrition, and performance metrics across all sites.
- Drive employee engagement, welfare, and communication initiatives across multi-locational operations.
3. Industrial Relations & Compliance:
- Oversee labour law compliance (PF, ESI, CLRA, Factories Act, Shops & Establishments, etc.) across all sites.
- Guide regional HR/IR teams in maintaining harmonious industrial relations and effective union management.
- Liaise with government bodies and ensure readiness for audits and inspections.
4. Talent Management & Capability Building:
- Develop leadership development and succession planning frameworks.
- Drive training and skilling programs for blue-collar and supervisory staff.
- Institutionalize performance management, rewards, and recognition systems across operations.
5. HR Governance, Analytics & Reporting:
- Standardize HR processes and systems across business units.
- Implement HR dashboards, analytics, and metrics for manpower cost, compliance, and productivity tracking.
- Present HR insights, manpower reports, and strategic updates to senior management and the board.
6. Business Partnership & Strategic Alignment:
- Act as a strategic advisor to business heads on people and organizational matters.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support business expansion, mergers, and operational transitions.
- Champion culture building, diversity, inclusion, and sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- MBA / PGDM in HR from top-tier B-school (XLRI, TISS, IIMs, Symbiosis, etc.).
- 15-20 years of HR leadership experience in large-scale, multi-site, labour-intensive industries (Manufacturing, Waste Management, Infrastructure, Logistics, etc.).
- Proven track record in managing 50,000+ workforce, including direct and contract labour.
- Strong knowledge of labour laws, HR operations, compliance, and HR technology systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
