Job Description: General Manager / DGM / AGM - HEMM Maintenance
Key Job Responsibilities :
- Strategic Asset Management: Develop long-term maintenance strategies (RCM/CBM) for a diverse fleet including brands like Komatsu, Caterpillar, Tata Hitachi, and Liebherr.
- Workshop Excellence: Oversee the on-site Workshop and ensure high-quality engine rebuilds & equipment maintenance that meet OEM standards.
- Field Support: Deploy rapid-response teams to mining sites to handle catastrophic failures and ensure on-site workshops are following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Vendor & OEM Management: Manage relationships with OEMs for Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) and Marcon contracts, ensuring strict adherence to SLA terms.
- Digital Integration: Leverage IoT and ERP (e.g., SAP/Oracle) to monitor real-time machine health, fuel consumption, and telematics data.
Key Result Area (KRA) Performance Indicators:
- Fleet Availability Achieving >85% physical availability for the HEMM fleet across sites.
- Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) Increasing the duration between breakdown events through rigorous PM.
- Cost Management Maintaining Maintenance Cost Per Ton (MCPT) within budgetary targets.
- Inventory Optimization Reducing Dead Stock while ensuring 100% availability of "Critical A" spares.
- Workshop Throughput Reducing Turnaround Time (TAT) for major component overhauls (Engines, Transmissions).
- Safety & Compliance Zero "Lost Time Injuries" (LTI) and 100% DGMS compliance.
- Leadership Strategy for a Smooth Maintenance Ecosystem
To transition from a "reactive" to a "proactive" culture, the AGM/GM will implement the following:
1. The "Pit-to-Plug" Feedback Loop
- Establish a seamless communication channel between site engineers and the Central Workshop. If a component fails prematurely on-site, the workshop performs a Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and pushes technical bulletins back to the field to prevent recurrence.
2. Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM) Overhaul
Move away from purely calendar-based maintenance. Implement:
- SOS (Scheduled Oil Sampling): Regular debris analysis to predict internal component wear.
- Vibration & Thermal Imaging: Identifying bearing or electrical heat-map issues before they cause a fire or seizure.
3. Skill Matrix & Bench Strength
- Mining sites are often remote. The strategy involves creating a "Skill Level" certification for technicians. High-performers are rotated through the Central Workshop to learn precision tolerances, then sent back to the field as "Master Techs" to lead site crews.
4. Lean Spares Strategy
- Implement a VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) system for high-consumption items (filters, hoses) and a "Hub-and-Spoke" model for major components (Engines/Wheel Motors) to ensure no machine sits idle for want of a part.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering.
- Experience: 15-25 years in HEMM maintenance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Industry: Open-cast mining, large-scale infrastructure or OEM service management.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in hydraulics, heavy engines (Cummins/MTU) and structural welding.
