Position Overview:
The General Manager (GM) - Credit is a senior leadership role responsible for the organizations entire credit underwriting architecture, risk management framework, and loan portfolio quality. This role drives strategic policy formulation, ensures regulatory compliance, minimizes credit losses, and leads a high-performing national credit underwriting team to support sustainable business growth.

Core Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Credit Policy & Governance:
- Formulate Underwriting Policies: Design, review, and update comprehensive credit underwriting policies for retail home loans, lap (loan against property), and other regulated products.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure applicable regulatory compliance.
- Process Automation: Partner with IT and digital transformation teams to implement advanced Loan Origination Systems (LOS) and automated credit rule engines.
2. Credit Underwriting & Risk Assessment:
- High-Value Approvals: Evaluate and sanction loan applications, as per companies policies.
- Risk Mitigation: Structure complex financial deals and implement collateral risk mitigation strategies to secure the companys asset exposure.
- Early Warning Systems: Establish frameworks to identify early warning signals (EWS) in the loan portfolio to prevent slippages into Non-Performing Assets (NPAs).
- Vendor & Agency Management: Oversee the empanelment, performance, and integrity of external technical valuers, legal advisers, and fraud verification agencies.
3. Portfolio Quality & Asset Management:
- NPA Control: Maintain ultimate accountability for Gross NPAs, early delinquencies (0-30 DPD), and bounce rates within budgeted corporate thresholds.
- Credit Audits: Conduct periodic regional credit audits to ensure absolute adherence to corporate credit policies and process integrity.
- Stress Testing: Perform regular stress testing on the loan portfolio against market fluctuations and liquidity shocks.
4. Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
- Team Building: Lead, mentor, and build a robust national credit team comprising National, Zonal, and Regional Credit Managers.
- Cross-Functional Synergy: Foster collaboration with Sales, Collections, Operations, and Legal teams to optimize the loan lifecycle.
- TAT Optimization: Balance credit quality with business efficiency by optimizing the Turnaround Time (TAT) for loan disbursements.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
1. Education & Professional Background:
- Minimum Qualifications: Chartered Accountant (CA), MBA in Finance, or a Postgraduate degree in Finance/Economics from a Tier-1 institution.
2. Relevant Experience:
- Total Experience: 10 to 15 years of strong experience in banking or financial services.
- Domain Expertise: Minimum 7+ years of core credit leadership experience within a reputed NBFC or a Bank.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Portfolio Quality: Gross NPA and Net NPA kept strictly below established organizational targets.
- Turnaround Time: Maintain or reduce standard credit evaluation TAT without compromising credit filters.
- Audit & Compliance: Zero material deviations or critical observations in internal, external, or regulatory credit audits.
